Default Famous Film Locations in Your Area

After a quick search online actually looking for "The best places to film a sunrise/sunset on Long Island New York" I found out that there has been quite a few famous and semi famous film locations on Long Island, New York.

Here are a list of some of the key ones:

Film
Animal Crackers, the Marx Brothers's second hit movie, was set in a Long Island mansion.
Sabrina, with Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart, had scenes filmed in Glen Cove and Nassau County.
The 1995 movie Batman Forever, starring Val Kilmer, Nicole Kidman, Jim Carrey, Tommy Lee Jones, and Drew Barrymore was filmed in part at Webb Institute, in Glen Cove.
The 2001 independent film L.I.E. (Long Island Expressway), starring Paul Dano and Brian Cox, dealt with an adolescent boy struggling in his life.
The 2004 movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet takes place on Long Island, specifically in Rockville Centre and Montauk.
The 2004 movie New York Minute, starring Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, has characters who attend Syosset High School.
The 1959 movie North by Northwest, starring Cary Grant, has scenes filmed in Glen Cove, Nassau County.
In the 2008 movie, What Happens in Vegas, Joy (played by Cameron Diaz) retreats to Fire Island.
In the 1977 movie, Annie Hall, Woody Allen's character remarks to Diane Keaton's character on seeing a pair of gay men walking hand-in-hand: "Oh look, they're on vacation from Fire Island.", a reference to the gay enclaves of Cherry Grove and Fire Island Pines.
In Final Destination, the movies take place on Long Island. In Final Destination 2, a Mapquest image is shown of the area around Stony Brook University Hospital even though the hospital is made out to be a psychiatric hospital.
In the famous scene from the 1972 classic The Godfather where the severed head of a horse is discovered in the bed of Jack Woltz was filmed in Port Washington. Also the very memorable scene where Sonny Corleone is gunned down at a toll booth was shot on what is now Nassau Community College
Although supposed to be set in the fictional town of Greenleaf, Indiana, the 1998 comedy In & Out starring Kevin Kline was filmed in Northport
The post office scene in the 2002 comedy Men in Black II was shot outside the Fire Island lighthouse
The 1999 Andy Kaufman biopic Man on the Moon opens with a scene of Jim Carrey who plays Andy narrating his story to the audience which he says begins "In Great Neck, Long Island..." (where Kaufman grew up.)
The film The Amityville Horror takes place in the town of Amityville.

What about were you live?

The Bonneville Salt Flats has been used quite a bit in movies because it's a huge open area of nothing but white salt and mountain.

I know there are many others in Utah, but none come to mind.

How weird I was just actually thinking of starting a thread like this yesterday. Obviously not everything was shot entirely here but I can think of a few movies in which had pretty cool scenes shot here. I live in the Pacific Northwest just north of Seattle and I know hundreds of movies have been shot around here, but off the top of my head for films very closely to my area would be the following, and the ones in parenthesis were the ones I have personal memories of because I got to watch some of the filming:

The Twilight Saga
Assassins (down the road from the work, for the big cemetary shootout i drive by everyday)
The Ring (down the road from me was the cabin and well)
Hancock
The Core
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me
Born to Be Wild (Chase seen filmed on my neighbor's property)
10 Things I Hate About You (went to school with lots of the extras and watched the school scenes and party scene)
Battle in Seattle
Fear
An Officer and a Gentleman
This Boys Life
Singles
Disclosure
Black Sheep
Harry and the Hendersons
Mad Love
Prefontaine (one of the track scenes was shot at my high school across the street from my house)
Another Stakeout

Well there's been a number of films filmed here in Oz specially at fox studios (NSW-AUSTRALIA), I live very close to fox but if I had to chose one location I would say LA PEROUSE, this is were they filmed one of the scenes of MI. II less than 5 minutes from my place

Oh, I just thought of one that was filmed in Utah, High School Musical. The school they go to in the movies, East High, is a real school here. I'm pretty sure almost all scenes of the 3 films were done here.

The airport scenes in Dumb & Dumber were at the airport here, and I'm pretty sure some of the other stuff is as well, like the Aspen scenes were done in Park City.

Also, the entire thing of The Sandlot was done here, except for one scene.

Well parts of Superman were filmed here (Calgary), as well as The Assassination of Jesse James, and some crappy Steven Seagal movie as well. There's probably others but I can't think of any right now.

Vancouver definitely is the place to be in Canada for star spotting. There was an article on CNN with Gillian Anderson and she was talking about living in Vancouver (she has a house there) and how much she likes it. Maybe on my next trip there I'll run into her and she'll fall madly in love with me....

Live Free Or Die Hard were mostly filmed in parts of Baltimore. Ladder 49 was also filmed in Baltimore as well.

Houston is not known as a filming location.

However the final battle of Robocop II was filmed in front of the Wortham Center, our opera house downtown.

And in the John Wayne movie "Hellfighters," a scene in a corporate board room was filmed in the very building I am working in now. Which tells you something about how old this building is.

Both those movies won about 6 oscars each... true story...

They filmed all the Pandora scenes from Avatar in my back yard. I kind of live off the beaten path.

I live in the Kansas City area. As one would expect there's not much going on around here. Ride with the Devil was shot not too far away, as was The Day After. Also, believe it or not, Kansas City was actually shot here by Kansas City native Robert Altman. Mr. and Mrs. Bridge was set here and pulled a bunch of kids from my high school as extras but that was over 20 years ago. Oh, and I think the United States of Tara is set in the town I work in. Not sure why.
