If this is true, count me in. I especially want Superman II, the original theatrical cut "Lester" version yes,i like it better than the newer Donner cut.I grew up watching the original in the theater, one of the top 5 best sequels of all time in my opnion.

If only they could leave out Superman Retreads... it would be the perfect boxset.

Hell, toss in Supergirl over that horrible film. That would be a positive step.

I actually think they might be wanting to distance the new movie from all previous Supermans and that's why they're putting this out way ahead.

Fair enough theory. Still, you can never be too sure with these money-grabbin' studios!

This is a possibility since WB now own the rights to the film.

They owned the rights to it when the released it at the same time as the Ultimate Superman DVD set.

It wasn't included then. And I have a feeling it won't be included this time.

I agree on the Lester cut working better. I especially HATE the ending of the Donner version - damned spin the Earth around thing. That killed it for me. I do appreciate what Donner was trying to do and some of the extra footage is cool. I Do like the extended opening sequence and the longer Fortress of Solitude stuff. Thats great. The fight, the added scene in the hotel where she shoots him and the end are just brutal.

The problem for me with this set is that I HATE Superman 3 & 4 and I already own 1,2(Donner), and Returns. Too much in that disc set that does me no good.

This actually sucks - Ill probably never get to own the Lester cut of SM2 now since I doubt they'll release it separately.

I agree. Using this card twice is an extremely bad idea. Especially since spinning the earth backwards is physics not time travel (or shall I say pick what you to keep and throw away the rest time travel). The more I think about this the more I realize how bad of an idea this really was.

I'm sure they will come out in single down the road like the Spider-man series did. It's a shame that studios force complete sets on you this was as I too am not really interested in Superman III or IV.

I'm not picking on you specifically, you just happen to be the most recent poster to mention it but, I was under the impression everyone knew the theatrical ending of STM was originally supposed to be for what has since been released as The Donner Cut. The spinning the world back was the final sequence for Donner's original Superman epic. They got behind on shooting I in time for what I think was a December release so they used the footage they had already filmed from II.

Ditto on both points. That damned earth-spin makes the Donner cut almost unwatchable. And yeah - box sets suck. Although Amazon UK has done me right on many sets price-wise. You can always try them and sometimes you can get a box set for about the same price as what a few single discs would cost. That happend with the Alien set for me.

The earth spinning scene was included because it was originally intended to be the ending of Superman II, back when they were shooting both films back to back. For some reason, Superman's original ending wasn't strong enough, so they actually killed Lois Lane, who I believe originally survived her ordeal in the car, and had Superman turn the earth around to save her life. It makes no sense, but we get that killer scream from Supes and it is far more noble for him to do it to save her life than it is to save her heart.

The reason it wasn't included was because it was the original intention, Donner never got to come up with a new ending, and because Lester's resolution also sucked. Why did Lois need to forget in the first place?

I prefer the Donner Cut, but the editing is off in some places. The most natural place for the scene where the Washington Monument is destroyed is right between Jor-El taking away Supes' powers (and giving Lois that powerful, cold look) and the scene where Zod invades the White House. But they put it right after Zod yells at Texas' news crew, before the Jor-El scene.

The humor didn't improve either. What got better was there was less humor, but you still got some bad one-liners here and there. What? You hit a woman?

The Lester Cut does three things better: Lois and Clark sleep together after he loses his powers (see Mallrats for better explanation ), the Superman theme plays a little bit longer after Superman crushes Zod's hand, and the scene where Superman is carrying the flag at the end of the movie,

I've heard the Blu-Ray for Returns wasn't very good, so I hope they can do a better one this time.

Figures, just went Blu-ray and bought Supes 1 & 2. Oh, well.... No wonder the price was so good on them.

Hmm . . . if Superman The Movie is redone with lossless and Superman Returns is redone to not look like crap, I may be in for this. Ideally I'd just get the original and Returns separately.

This'll be good. I only own Superman Returns on Blu-ray. Never got the others, but this set may be worth the wait.

It sounds like an expensive waste of money just to get two decent movies (Superman 1 & 2) even if those two are better quality than their current blu-ray versions.

This info comes from 2006. If it were blu all of the special features will be on the same disc as the movie. Someone just took the info from the 2006 set and copied and paste. Superman returns in Dolby Digital only gives it away. Look for this release around the fall of 2012 for a tie-in to the new Superman film
