Real men watch this.

I saw Eat Pray Love at a free advanced screening last Wednesday (my girlfriend dragged me to it) and it was much better than I expected. It was far from perfect and it had some flaws. It definitely didn't need to be almost 2.5 hours and it moved slow in certain sections, especially in India, but besides that I really enjoyed it. The film actually was pretty funny especially scenes that featured Billy Crudup. This is a nice comeback from Julia Roberts.

I didn't think about it until I was actually watching it, that each word in the title is what she does in order on each of her 3 journeys to three countries (Italy, India, and (Bali) Indonesia). The film critics definitely pointed out it's flaws, but many were to harsh on it. The story didn't really have a serious conflict and she didn't learn that much besides learning more about herself. I have admit like others said, Julia Roberts' character was self-absorbed/a narccist and broke up her perfect marriage and was just plain selfish... Besides those negatives and you don't think about those faults, it was a fun journey, with some laughs and I surprisingly got into the story. Again, the performances in this film all around were great. With the many places she went to, I felt like I was going on an exotic vacation. It was a mixture of drama and comedy, which blended together perfectly for a movie like this. It featured so many delicious foods that I am mad I saw it on an empty stomach.

The acting was pretty great here. Billy Crudup and Richard Jenkins were my favorite characters. Richard Jenkins gave a fantastic performance in this worthy of a Golden Globe Nomination. James Franco was good in this, but he didn't do much in it. He basically served one small purpose in her journey and could have been easily left out.

3.5 Stars, rounded up to 4 Stars on the poll. 7/10 in my rating system.

lol - yea, besides those "negatives", it was a good film.

2.5 hour chick flick that your GF dragged you to. -- News Flash: REAL MEN don't get dragged to this type of movie. They tell their GF's to grab a few of their GF's & have fun.

As for Richard Jenkins - He is a Very good & Under-rated Actor. Also, News Flash# 2: The Golden Globes aren't really that much in the REAL "Awards" sense. They're all voted on by FOREIGN Critics, who really just love to throw a good party in Hollywood with free booze & food. He's been Nominated for an Oscar once already. Maybe this will be #2. Another Oscar and/or SAG Nomination, now Those are REAL Awards. The Golden Globes critics can feast on their latest Wolfgang Puck chocolate truffle designed whatever...

1. I don't think the Academy would Nominate Richard Jenkins for a role in "this movie." Another great performance in an ok movie was Annette Bening in Running With Scissors... and lol it was directed by the same director. She only earned a Golden Globe Nomination for that role. Also, in my opinion, this was much better than Running With Scissors.

2. To be coherent with my previous comments on why I think this is still a good film, I made a small edit in my original post/review.

Real men tell their girlfriend "Ok, I'll come" and then drag them into the expendables instead.

I picked up the book. The girl I was recently seeing is a big fan of it and, like me, is very into the whole travelling to seek personal growth deal. I've heard the film doesn't do the book justice, though.

Funny story about bias in reporting on movies.

This movie got a glowing 2 pages of review in the local Weekender. Everything in the article was positive towards the movie, yet it got 2 out of 4 stars (for being boring).

The Expendables got a negative 4 paragraphs, and still managed a 2 out of 4 star. And it also contained inaccurate information. Weird.

Yup, even the most objective critics won't always give a movie they're prejudiced towards a fair shake.
