Sorry, this turned into a long post:
Okay guys, I'm looking for some help. For the past 3 days I have been unable to connect to the Playstation Network on my PS3. When attempting to sign in, it always returns the error 80710092. I have tried everything I know to correct the problem and have run out of ideas. If any of you know what's wrong and/or how to fix it, please let me know! First some useful information: My PS3 is on a wired connection to a router w/ built-in firewall. This in turn is connected to my cable modem which is in turn connected to the cable outlet. I am able to use the browser on the PS3 to view webpages and I am able to up/download packets for folding@home. I have been able in the past to log in to the PSN without any trouble. On all of the failed attempts, I did check the Playstation website to make sure the network showed as being up. What I've already attempted: First I checked to see if I had connectivity by checking the browser and folding@home. That worked... Next I went into Network setup on my PS3 to reset all the settings. Using the auto-configure option, it would obtain an IP address, but could not connect to the server (the second check). Hmm, strange... My next thought was perhaps my router decided to block something (or was maybe crapping out), so I hooked up my PS3 directly to my cable modem and power-cycled it a few times. Ran the setup again and still received the error. After that I went to the Playstation website and ran a search for that error on the forums. I got a few returns (it seems a few people have had the problem starting in August) but found no concrete resolutions. Contacted Playstation support and just received an email detailing the ports used and requesting that I make sure my firewall is allowing them to be used. Since I've already eliminated that possibility I'll have to give them a call Saturday to try and get it fixed if it's not working by then. So, is there anything else you guys can think of that I should try? Perhaps one of you has run into the same problem and figured out how to fix it already? ![]() |

I don't know how to fix this problem, hell I didn't even read your whole post because i'm on my phone, but I have this problem too. and I was only able to log in by disabling the auto log in and doing it manually. only a minor inconvenience.

not positive this will help - but you could see if setting the PS3 to wifi connection and unplugging the ethernet connection helps. Just a quick thought. I have had this error b4, but it never lasted long.

Is there a way to flush your local name cache on the PS3? -CB |

I encounter this problem more often than I'd like. The answer to your question is, it is your router. I don't know how to fix this problem long term, but the short term fix works just fine for now. When you get this error, unplug the power to your router for about 10 seconds, plug it back in, and you'll be fine. If someone out there knows a permanent solution to this (i.e. specific router settings I can change, port forwarding range values, etc.) I'd be interested to hear this.
Anyhow, short term, I hope this helps. |

If you can resolve some hosts but not all it usually is a DNS issue or the desired host is down (part of the Internet be broke). -CB |

I haven't messed much with the networking stuff on the PS3, is it similar to a PC? It will be pushing my network competency, but heck, I've been incompetent before. ![]() |

Possible fix
http://boardsus.playstation.com/play...read.id=103269 That guy seems to think his DNS server wasn't resolving the needed host. I'm not liking the PS3's cryptic messages if that's the case. I don't use my ISP's DNS because of reliability issues like the one stated above. Shhh - don't tell anyone but I use some root servers as resolvers. Try hardcoding your DNS Server to 4.2.2.1 or 4.2.2.2. Quick, reliable, and less trouble when DNS cache is slow to update. -CB |

Is the web browser working? I had an issue the other week when they were preparing for 1.9 but I don't remember what error it was but after they got 1.9 up for download it was working fine. I called Sony before it was up and running and they said it was probably "network congestion." so basically they couldn't help.
My only suggestion would be to reset everything back to original settings and try that. |

I will have to try and delete all the info on the sign in screen and then re-enter it. I haven't tried that as all the info "appears" to be correct, but maybe something glitched. |
