Thumbs down Has anyone else ever been screwed by eBay ???(as a seller)

Very rarely, if ever do I ever use eBay to sell Blu-rays...But due to certain circumstances I needed about $500 fast so I decided to sell 40 of blu's in a lot on eBay. It sold for just under $400 all of the blu's included were either in MINT condition or still sealed. 3 days after the auction I messaged the buyer as they had still not payed me. They say they forgot and would pay within the hour (it took them 2 more days). They paid on a Friday night...I shipped on the following Tuesday as Monday was President's Day. Everyday from Friday until Tuesday the buyer messaged me telling me to bubble wrap the blu's...I told them don't worry I would package them safely. She then proceeds to write crazy messages saying that she knows blu-rays get scratched during shipping so make sure I package it "extra secure and safe". I complied and did so as that is how I would want my blu's, but why send that message every day?
Well the day buyer got the package she sends me a PayPal invoice for $100 saying the discs were scratched, I know for a fact that is untrue as I checked all of the discs before I packaged them and of the 40 I had only watched 16 of them; the rest either had shrink wrap or just had the shrink wrap removed. Well eBay decided that the buyer has to send the movies back and I have to refund them...basically a huggggeee pain the butt for me. I know eBay has to protect everyone but I am terrified that this person may have deliberately scratched my discs after I refused to give them $100 back for no reason. Long story short if/when I get my blus back (in the condition I originally shipped them in) I will be selling most of them here as I usually do. If the Blu-rays aren't in the condition I sent them in is there anything I can do? Has anyone ran into problems like this on eBay?
It's just a screwy situation and I had to put it up somewhere.

First of all, when someone wins your auction, put in the auction that you require payment with 24 or 48 hours by Paypal. If they don't pay, send them a message saying you're going to repost the item at a certain time then repost it at that time if you still don't have payment.

Also, if the Blus were fine when they left and are now not. I would require proof of the scratches. If there's proof this sounds like an insurance claim for the shipper.

Indeed you are right.

OP also you should go ahead and report the buyer as well. Its a federal offense.

It doesnt matter, the buyer always wins. She/he can send you back half of them, theres nothing you can do but be out money. They will get a refund. I just was screwed on a SteelBook, same situation....Mine was an exchange for their dented one

Isn't it as long as she sends back some of the items. Otherwise, if she doesn't then she did pull a scam.

I'd tell them no refund and open a dispute with ebay. I never offer refunds on stuff I sell. Also if the buyer is making that big of a deal about scratched discs, then insist on insurance, if they refuse then it's their problem.

I sold a guy about $450 worth of comics (including Avengers #1) and he refused insurance. Sure enough the comics got lost in the mail and the buyer got upset at me. I told him that he refused insurance and that common sense would say to put insurance on $450 worth of comics.

So in short, require immediate payment within 24 hours, don't offer a refund, and insist on insurance. That will keep situations like this from happening.

In the auction I listed payment was due within 48 hours. I told the buyer I was re-listing then she kept saying she was paying until she indeed did ( I guess it is my fault for being patient).

Also the buyer opened a claim and I replied to the claim with my perspective and thoughts. This is where eBay stepped in and basically said we have no proof this is nothing more than he said she said : the buyer will send the blus back and we will take the money from your paypal account. I always say no refunds in my auction's terms but eBay completely went above that.

once that buyer provides tracking that shows delivery your account is debited, it doesnt matter if its a box of bricks

Doesnt matter, without proof of delivery its the sellers fault. The insurance is really only for sellers protection.

EBay has new policy, doesnt matter what the listing says, they have final say on whether a refund is granted. Mine said no returns as well

Dude that really does suck.

There has to be an consequence or an action to avoid something like that from happening in the first place.

I sold briefly on Ebay but I was getting screwed by Ebay on a few things, so I just gave up on that. I go via Craigslist now or on here.

Yeah, but Craigslist pi**es me off. I was selling DVDs and I had a person who kept saying that they were coming by today to pick up the DVDs and was a no show. Not once, but twice. After the second time, I said; "F*** it!" I sent them an email telling them; "Too bad, so sad. I don't have time to waste."

Topics like this are why I have never seriously delved into eBay as a seller. I always am hearing about horror stories from sellers. The system is fundamentally broken. The only entity making money off the situation is eBay.

I used eBay from 2000 - 2007. Since I'm not really comfortable with Paypal, I stopped since eBay bought Paypal and it became the main way of payment. Back when I started, it was even dodgy. I bought some Gameboy games and then like the day after I bought it, the seller was no longer a valid user. I was like; "What the hell?" So, $20 on 6 games went right out the window.

The person that bought from me lives in Missouri not too far from St. Louis I believe. The person is a joke and a horrible business person which they claim to be. Per eBay's request they have supposidley sent me my movies back in the condition I sent them in. BUT.....They shipped the item to an address I lived at 2 years ago that is not listed on PayPal or eBay. I spoke with eBay on the issue and are looking into how the user even got that address as it is not listed anywhere on my eBay account or PayPal account. The person basically laughed at me when I told them they shipped my blu-rays to the wrong state.
I immediately called eBay to speak to someone and they said eBay has "ruled in my favor" after my counter to the case she filed. I basically explained how she was trying to extort an additional $100 and keep all of the movies...eBay told me that they were refunding the woman her money back out of their pocket and I was keeping my money but the the blu-rays are now lost. I am trying to get a hold of UPS to get that package back to me. I guess justice was somewhat served because eBay claims that they are now investigating the user "even though they are a Power Seller" (what a crock!)... Oh well I'll keep everyone posted.

Good luck with the situation man. Even if the blu-rays really are lost forever, at least you're keeping the money. Stories like this are why I seldom mess with ebay any more, and when I do it's only for small things. That way if I get hosed I'm not out a lot of money.
