So, with the onward march of pico projectors (for example), how do you see things progressing? Will we see bluray-player-thin projectors mounted in living rooms everywhere? Will 1080p projector prices come crashing down?
While the light control issue will always plague projectors (no matter how bright they get), I'm hoping that this renewed interest in projector technology will bring some exciting developements. What do you think? ![]() |

I think that projectors have a long way to go before they are in homes everywhere. People who have projectors in their homes are really part of an elite group. And I think it's going to stay that way for a while. A lot of people, I am sure, don't have the ability to control the light - or the large size of room that a projector truly requires. That said, I think that projectors are advancing nicely. 1080p is already available for under $1000. It just really depends on your budget. These days, you can do a full starter projection system - with an entry level 720p projector, basic 100" screen, and a decent HTIB - for less than the cost of an LCD flat screen and be the envy of the neighborhood. But there is one thing that is preventing a lot of people from doing that. Space. Most people just simply do not have the space for a projector. |

I have to disagree..I have a projector in my LR and am by far NOT part of an elite group. The Moviemate all in one projector is FOR peple with apartments or smaller LRs that dont have the room for ceiling mounting, etc. Plus, I would say folks who can invest $2 - 3,000 for a TV are more of an elite group..my MM projector only cost me $885.

Well the reason I didnt go for a projector was the less ease of use and space required. The need to mount it, the cable organizing behind walls or boxed required a lot of DIY or professional installation.
For the average consumer its just easier to buy a set, plop it on a stand, then enjoy. You have to remember that a projectors largest selling point, at least for me, is screen size. 100" screens at affordable pricing. However, 100" screen sizes require larger rooms, sitting farther back. You wouldnt have a 100" screen sitting 10 feet back where you used to watch you 50" LCD. It would be like sitting way in the front of a movie theater. Projectors just arnt as convenient in their current form. |

Actually projectors are convenient and easy to use in a living room. People make them seem much more complicated than they really are. I sit 11' from a 106" screen and want to go bigger. All I have to do is close the curtains to use my PT-AX200U in the day. Put the screen in front of your TV when you want to use it. No need for ceiling mounts, just put it on a wall shelf or on top of an audio stand like this.

If one doesnt rule out an "all in one" like my Moviemate...then you will probably limit yourself. As for me, I was and still am disgusted by the price for flat panels beyond the 55 inch range.
I bought an all in one, plopped it on a table, sit about 14 feet away and get a 120 - 125 inches in a MEDIUM size Living Room. |

I can't say that i'm a big fan of the swivel. I have one around the house somewhere but its still too infant to be fun. Like all projectors, the light plagues it badly, but moreso than others because it is too weak. I do like the fact that the picos are LED powered, though. The prices on lamp-based projectors (your "high end" ones) always burn out - the LED type don't. Personally, I prefer the aaxa m1 micro projector over the swivel. While it isn't as small with a connected battery pack, its like 5x as bright. I'll take pics later tonight if i can find it. |

to be projected over me and the wall behind me. Do you think the aaxa m1 would be suitable for a small house party of gathering in a church with 50 people? thanks ![]() |
