Lightbulb Please make movie infos clear on cases

HD is 480P, 720P and 1080P. Even here they write widescreen for 1:85:1 and 2:35:1, 16x9 when it's 1:78:1 and even panoramic when it's not. At least on most DVD cases, this information is clear on back cover. Instead of a long customer friendly full/wide screen bar on front cover, that'll be neat to have that "1080P 2:35:1" written on front cover, like this Fantastic Four blu-ray case for the resolution: https://www.blu-ray.com/images/ces2006/bda_12.jpg

Here, here! I agree completely!

Front cover info with the encoding resolution and movie size. I would imagine that all movies will be encoded HD. So, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. But, which one matters a great deal. Plus, what type of audio (HD, DD, DTS, etc.)?

As for what the ratio of the actual movie is - I almost don't care. I expect movies to always be presented in their OAR (original aspect ratio). So, with a plasma or other device does it matter what that was? 2.35:1 - black bars top and bottom. 1.85:1 - maybe thin black bars. 1.33:1, side bars.

I don't care about the bars, I care about the jump up in resolution, and I may pay a bit more for a 1080p disc over a 720p disc if I could get it.

I don't think you will get any oposition from anyone - except for the studios. Wouldn't it be great if all used the same logo's and in the same location on the covers. At least we can dream.

Agreed. Pan & Scan sucks.

If I want a movie cut to ribbons I'll buy the VHS.

I would like to see every disc encoded for 1080p24, with the player itself being able to scale the image to suit your tv. For my tv with 1366 by 768 I'd opt for 720p.
