Default Does anyone here NOT listen to the DD-HD and DTS-HD audio tracks?

I'm struggling. I want to upgrade to the Sony s570, but I'll lose my multichannel analog outs that go with my old-school receiver, meaning I'll lose HD audio.

Just trying to see who, if anyone, actually listens to the regular, core 5.1 tracks.

I expect there's a ridiculous difference.

There is a huge difference on most movies. You just have to bite the bullet at some point and get a new receiver.

One day...

Maybe I'll just keep my current Sony s550. I just want the bells and whistles on the s570 and was wondering if it was worth giving up my HD sound.

Why don't you just upgrade to a receive that has multi channel outs?

Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I have a receiver with multichannel ins (which is what you mean I think).

My player has multichannel outs.

The player I want does not.

What kind of HTIB did you get? Like it?

My current one is a HTIB. It's great for my purposes.

What bells and whistles are you wanting that would make you give up the HD sound? to me, all i care about IS the hd sound! half the blurays i have, are solely based on the sound alone...

Stupid stuff: BD Remote with my iPod Touch; Wireless connection; streaming capability for YouTube, Pandora, Netflix, etc.

They are silly, I know.

I'd be without it just for a period of months. Looking at getting the Yamaha RX-V465, that I believe is compatible with my existing speakers, down the road.

All I know is its Sony and its one that matches the Blu-ray players... don't know the model number... good unit and its served me well, but I would MUCH rather have something bigger and better. I got it pretty cheap tho so I knew what I was getting and can't complain too much...

I think how big of a difference it makes depends upon your audio system. I do notice a difference, and I definitely prefer the lossles... but I would not describe the difference as HUGE. If I had to choose between lossles audio and streaming Netflix... I would PROBABLY pick the Netflix... but that's a choice I really wouldn't want to have to make. Have you thought about just getting a separate box for streaming, like a Roku or a Popcorn or something?

to me it is huge... I can definitely tell a difference by putting on the HD tracks... to everyone it is different tho. I can BARELY tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p, and in some instances I can't at all, and the whole DNR issue with GONY and Gladiator... I honestly can't see it, but that's my vision. I am an audiophile, however, so the lossless/uncompressed vs. DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1 core is a HUGE difference to me.

i like lossless sound but i'm not obsessed with it. i've seen more than adequate evidence that people will hear exactly what they want to hear. sometimes i'll listen to the lossy track just to spite audiophiles

I would not describe the difference as huge either, in fact i would describe it as subtle. Its not like wow listen to that lossless, its more an effect you get over the movie as a whole.... as in slightly more enveloping sound, with some sound levels reaching a better level of clarity. Frankly the core tracks on Blu sound much better then their dvd counterparts, which imo is nothing bad, just not the best available.

I wouldn't want to buy a component today that doesn't support the lossless codecs, but i wouldn't sacrifice features in a hurry to get the capability back either. Core tracks won't kill you until you get the funding and research together to make your next purchase. Just my opinion.

me. ive never heard the hd or lossless tracks before. my receiver is too old, and my bluray player is a ps3, no multichannel out. still i have been impressed with the core tracks, still an significant upgrade over the dvd soundtracks. plus once i finally get a new receiver, i have a good excuse to go watch all the titles i own again

I upgraded my receiver at Thanksgiving from an older Sony using optical in to an Onkyo 607 with HDMI, and I've gotta say that there is a HUGE difference with True HD / Master Audio. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but trust me here, it's a lot easier to move from DD 5.1 or DD+ to HD Audio that it is to go backwards.

Keep the player and spend your money on a new receiver instead. You won't be disappointed.

Seems like if you don’t like Yamaha’s internal amps you can always buy matching amps that will play fine with the loudspeakers. It’s got RCA phone outputs where some models don’t even support RCA phone outputs.
