Unhappy My 32" tv is in a coma!!

woke up this morning, took my shower, poured myself a bowl of cereal, and went to eat it while watching the news.

hit the power button on the remote about 5-6x...nothing. i'm farily lazy so it took this many times before i assumed it was just the batteries and i got up and pushed the power button, nothing. held it for a couple seconds, nothing.

unplugged it for 20 min. hoping that would "reset" it, nothing.

i bought it from Best Buy in June 2008 and bought their 4 year warranty so i'm not worried about having to pay to get it fixed, it just sucks b/c this means....potentially....no God of War 3 in HD when it comes out depending on the turn around time for a service call.

1 small bit of hope i'm clinging to is i've also got a bad input on it, it doesn't display color. i'm hoping Best Buy just junks it out and i can replace it w/a newer 1080p model!!

Good luck with it. While I always hope for the best, remember to plan for the worst. I would not be surprised if he has to look at it and then order parts and come back to put them in.

I wonder what would have happened if you simply brought it in to BB instead of making a service call.

Recently a friend of mine had an open box set he bought from BB a few months ago (likely outside of 90 days actually) that developed a problem. He couldn't find the paperwork but knew he had it before x-mass last year.

He went in and negotiated for a while and they tried to look up the transaction but had no luck. Eventually they just gave him store credit! He picked up the same set brand new with the new warranty. Also the open box set he had came with a generic remote that wasn't right so there was a benifit to the new one there too.

I don't know... just seems like anything can happen if you're nice and lucky. Maybe if you took it in you could have finagled a 1080p set. (Maybe you still can. Sometimes repairs don't make sense given the cost of parts so maybe they will give you credit.)

well, i had a 27" standard tv when lived @ home and had their warranty on that one too.

when i moved, i unplugged the component cables and....POP....out came the connectors!!!

i took that one in and they worked w/the srvc. people to fix them, usually they don't cover that.

they more than likely would've sent it out to be fixed. but this way, i don't have to take time out of my day to go up there, they can come to me.

and i'm hoping it's just junked out, they do that sometimes depending on the model or the type of tv.

Man that sucks. I would bet my steelbook collection that it has to do with your capacitors (not really ). Good luck with the service call. Hopefully the turn around time for your repair service is short.

Sounds like the problem discussed here:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/lcd-tvs/13...sung-lcds.html

My 46" Samsung takes a few minutes to turn on now. It used to be instant. I have another 1-1/2 year left on my warranty from Best Buy.

Are you getting any power at all?

Yeah, the light on the power button is still glowing red, it just won’t power on.

I asked the girl I had on the phone if they still have the lemon part on their 4 year warranty….she said yes.

So I’ll get this fixed, wait 30 days, call in my input problem, and then just work the hell out of it w/hopes it dies again, then they junk it out for sure.

I’ll have to read that thread a little closer and ask the tech if that is what the problem is.

I smell a new TV for Blu-Benny! That would be best, considering you have two separate problems. If it's under warranty, they may just come in there with the diagnosis and find that it's a motherboard and/or some other type of logic board in the set. Those are usually pretty easy to replace, and generally the source of problems you describe (although I am definitely no expert when it comes to this type of repair). Either way, you'll be in good shape with little inconvenience, other than not having your TV for a while.

I’ve got a list of questions for my wife to ask the tech 2morrow, and I’m gonna see if I can sweet talk the sales manager @ the local best buy who I know from working there into some kind of deal since there are so many problems being reports w/the Samsung tv’s.

Worst part is going to be lugging the 27” standard tv up from the basement and hooking up the converter box!!

@ least the lcd is light enough and easy to move!!

Hope your Best Buy is like mine. I think mine is stuggling to stay open and they treat me like a king there each and every time. They are surprisingly nice.

As an example there was a HDTV tuner in store open boxed for $179 and it went down to $169 and then the tag was removed and it just sat there. It was too much for me but I would go check it out whenever I was in store. Recently I asked "How much is this now" and they took it to a manager and came back with "How about $50?." These routinely sell for $180 on Ebay still and it's perfect for me because my projector doesn't have a tuner and all that. My Best Buy is just too nice.

@ my local store, the sales manager was a rep. when i worked there, the general manager was a lower manager when i worked there, their op's manager was hired the same time i was, and my sister is the merch manager.

so i'm hoping between them, i can work out some kind of deal and get a new tv.

i'm hoping one of them is willing to junk it out. :fingerscrossed:

I’m gonna see if my wife is willing to try and talk the tech into telling best buy the tv is shot and s/b replaced!!

Worst part is I really don’t have the funds to really upgrade the thing. But I’m thinking if I can get $500 store credit for it, only a couple hundred bucks more I can get a 40” tv.
