I have grown up as a video game player. However, that has changed since I bought my plasma. I am really sick of every game I play having a static life bar, ammo bar, map, or score board when it comes to Madden. Am I the only one who is dissappointed that video game designers are not taking plasma owners into account when they develop games?

nope, that is just a matter of gaming.. no way a developer can develop for one minority of tv owners...
Big gamers know to go LCD, or follow some avsforums for proper burn in preparation on specific plasmas.. which in theory reduce burn-in effect... |

I have a Sony Wega KDXBR970 34" CRT so i don't have to worry about burn in,Although i do like both lcd's and plasmas, but i perfer this tube for gaming and movies mainly, I do understand what you mean about the still images.I would be in your situation that this can be a big problem mate. |

I've played games for... let me think... at LEAST six years on my Panasonic 50" Plasma and I've never had any problems with 'burn in' (it's actually image retention you are referring to).
I've played days on end and had the same UI on the screen for days on end and never had problems. The worst case scenario I've come up on so far was leaving NWN Toolset on the screen for a week and having the lower right corner start to retain, but it went away a few days later. I leave my PS3 on all the time with the image on the screen without any issues. Try a better brand of plasma or something.. don't know what to tell you but you should not ever be having any issues with plasma. BTW, _real_ gamers don't use LCD over 32" because they can't stand the ghosting. |

I dont have a DLP but I did not think they had a burn in prob anyway so thats a good thing for you. my plazzy's have no prob's with burn in games, movies,tv no pic retention at all I know the older first gen plazzys did like the 2005 and older. what TV model/brand does the tread starter have. that could make a big diffrence cause I never these thoughts.

I think it'd be a tadbit more annoying having to deal with the HUD moving while you play.
"Oh, I'm ok, I have full health, oh wait, no that's not my health that's my ammo. Where's my health? gaaaackc gurgle controller thrown at plasma screen" [ Add ] Even with passive HUDs though I'm left wondering, because of FPSes in general, you're going to have the same stuff in the same general space up most of the time. But burn in is cummulative. Maybe you dont see it now, but its slowly building up, and will eventually be evident. Even if you take a break in between and switch it off/different channel etc, it still builds up over time.
Anyone who does any gaming should avoid plasmas like the plague. CRT based rear-projection are the next worse I believe. Thats why I went with an LCoS rear-projection, no fear of burn in whatsoever |

Burn in and image retention are different.
Image retention can happen to any type of tv, and is only temporary. Burn in only happens to plasmas and crts, and it is permanent. And yes Plasmas are the worst at this. This can all be found easily by looking it up on wikipedia |

I have a 40 inch lcd, sony xbr, and I don't have problems. And, um, I think I am a really gamer. I have owned every system since Nintendo. I have been playing games since I was 6. |

Hmm ... this may be an inconvenient solution, but could you go into the service menu and just tweak the vertical &/or horizontal alignment so the image shifts slightly and you don't use exactly the same pixels on the plasma display? Then a hour or so later tweak it back to the old settings.

I bought a 42" plasma, that was used to play madden 06 when it came out, at my work. The game was running 12 hrs a day for almost two weeks at a time. When I got it home it had horrible image retention. After a couple days of watching moives and stuff it was gone. Also I have put well over 200 hours into oblivion on this screen, with no image burn what so ever. I think image burn in plasmas is highly over rated.

Then there is the news station tickers, while the words may be moving, the ticker box it's self is does not. Old Plasma displays had issues of burning in images, but that does not usualy happen to higher end models, and current Plasmas have improved technology that I beleive almost nullifies burn ins. But read the manual that came with TV first or visit TV manufacture website, they usualy have a FAQ, online manuals, and contact for techsupport. |
