Anybody watch Cotto vs Mayorga? What were your thoughts?
First I'd like to mention the other fights. Tommy Z vs Bryant. What happened? Took a while for Bryant to go down after the punch. I know the announcers said sometime that shot can take a while for the wind to get out. Still seemed off to me. I think he gave up because it was such a mismatch. Bryant didn't have the skill and wasn't fit enough. Just seemed like an easy opponent for Tommy Z. Wolak vs Yuri Foreman was exciting. I like watching the bull styled fighters. It was one sided however, but fun. The two lightweights kinnda bored me honestly. Just seemed their styles didn't match well. Zappavigna threw wildly and seemed to loss his balance too much. Vazquez didn't wow me, but did better. The main event was one sided. Cotto's skill just was superior to Mayorga's power. Cotto fought smart, jabbed, didn't engage in a brawl, had good movement, was accurate and knew what to do. Mayorga fought like a psycho, throwing wildly without thought. Sure, he put on a show and gave a decent enough fight, just nowhere near enough to be champ. Mayorga got a some good punches in, mostly rights. Yes, they weren't always that accurate, but when they landed they made their mark. Cottos punches did better. You could see Mayorga's head snap back and they slowed him down. Only a handful of Mayorga's punchs did that to Cotto. I'd really only give Mayorga round 7 and maybe 9 (might only give 9 a draw). End result is anybody can be a psycho, talent is another story. |
