Thumbs up Sony HX700, HX800, HX900 series

Anyone else very excited about this series? Looking over the technical specifications, these TV's are shaping up nicely and look fantastic on paper. I was recently offered a Sony KDL55HX701 (due to the Sony exchange program for my SXRD XBR1 60" issues) at a heavily discounted price of $550 plus a 1 year warranty. Suffice to say, I'm jumping all over that.

Aesthetically speaking, I think the HX700 and HX900's look very snazzy. I'm loving the monolithic design of these two series. Anyone out there planning on purchasing a display from one of these three series? It will be interesting to see the reviews and firsthand impressions.

Any thoughts?

HX series will be deeper due to local dimming tech and 3D capabilities, I know you know Steve but thinness does not affect picture quality. My neighbor bought a Samsung LED LCD which he called an LED TV until I told him its LED LCD and he got confused, but showed me how thin it was. My only question was, Dave...do you watch the side of your TV? Idiot...lol

I was thinking about getting the 60" EX700 when I get my tax returns as a TV for my basement, I just don't know if I want to spend $2800.00 yet. This is the Tv I want though. If not I'll grab a 55" for under $2000.00. These HX series look great does anyone have any prices on the 52"?

These TV's are UK only.

I'm more interested in the XBR LX900 series. I think that TV is beautiful. Having wi-fi capabilities is definitely a plus for me. The XBR HX900 is definitely a beauty though.

Yes, but the thiness factor matters very little to me. I'm all about the functionality and performance rather than the presentation.

I'm defiantly getting the HX900, but will wait for a cnet review just to be sure xD. Just a question though, I'm sure you'll be able to do things like download firmware updates, use netflix streaming, widgets, etc. You'll probably just need to get a wireless usb adapter separately I guess, right?

Your right mmunro,

Thinness does not effect PQ and I am sure the new Sony Tv's are gonna look very good. Unlike some people here I dont care for 3D and once I get a PS3 I wont have to worry about Widgets and so fourth because my new PS3 will have everything I need and more.

i just want to know if it will be able to do 2d to 3d convert while i wait for real 3d content like the samsungs do ? i want either the 60 inch lx900 or the vizio 72 inch xvt pro ( stop before flaming begins vizio newer models have excellent reviews at cnet and other places so dont yell at me ) both look to be running about 3500-3800dollars so are comparable except even the vizio is backlit led with 480 zones but the sony is edge lit so im having problems deciding which one but the conversion is a big selling point for me as all of the manfacturers should have "similiar" features imo if anyone knows for sure whether the lx900 can convert could you post a link to info thanks

Default Kdl55hx701

First post to this forum. I am an old audiophile returning to the world after not paying too much attention over the last 8yrs. Boy has a lot of change taken place. I am now ready to make the plunge and could use a bit of help.

Since the KDL55HX701 was the first noted TV in this thread I will return to it.

I have one (55KX701) on hold but need your opinions here. The other options are:
Samsung UN55B8500
Samsung UN55C8500
Sony KDL52XBR9

My needs:
Not fully interested in 3D (yet).
Would like to connect my MacBook Pro
Stream Netflix movies

BTW: The KDL55HX701 is on hold at Best Buy and on sale for $2299

Thanks in advance,

Robert

I would just go with the C8500 since it's the latest and greatest of the 3 you listed.

As I said before if I ever replace my 46V5100 the HX700 will be the HDTV I replace it with. When I saw the 46inch version it blew me away by the PQ and sound I saw and heard. Excellent tv.
