Just saw this movie and I must have it on blu-ray. The US version which is out soon is Region A locked.

Do any of you know if this Japanese version is region free?

I bought the Japanese disc 2nd hand and it's region free. Confirmed with ---- and there are no region symbols on the case or disc. There are a couple of Japanese lines in the movie but those have English subs (hardcoded into the image). Original audio is available in Dolby TrueHD 5.1. There are no English subs for the main feature (except for those few Japanese dialogue parts).

The extras include a message from Richard Gere and an interview of Gere at the Shibuya station's Hachiko statue (those are both in English + the interview includes Japanese interpretation). The other extras are interviews and speeches by the Japanese voice actors (for the dub) + a Japanese trailer.

I have the US version but a very good film. The story of Hachiko has always intrigued me and my first trip to Shibuya, I had to take a picture with that statue.

According to http://bluray.liesinc.net/ US Release is region free.
