Movie Steelbooks Question ? - Blu-ray Forum

Hello guys,

My question is, how does Steelbooks get a value. For example a Steelbook from Korea could be more expensive than a Steelbook made in the United States.

Fill me in, as I might start collecting.

same way anything gets value, supply & demand. if its hard to find, people will pay more for it.

It all has to do with the limited nature of the release in question. Sometimes the studio only allows a certain number to be made. The smaller that number, the harder it is for collectors to get their hands on it. That means that they will be "worth more."

And, some people will go out and buy a bunch of copies on release day in order to turn around and sell them because they know collectors will pay for them. Then, those people will raise the price in order to make a little bit of money for themselves.

BASICALLY... demand dictates the price.

My question is when do they sell these "rare" steelbooks at like Best Buy? For example Rambo is one of the rarest Steelbooks, buy where did anyone but that at the shop before it got so rare ?

I know their is a new Twilight Steelbook at Best Buy, but its probably worth nothing if I was to buy and resell.

they sell them when it is first released. steelbooks are generally limited, so once they are sold out they arent going to make anymore.

I agree with this person. DO NOT BUY STEELBOOKS!!! That way us avid collectors have one less person to compete with.

Money isn't a problem, and I can control my addiction to be honest.

I would only buy Steelbooks of movies I like. Anyone open Steelbooks, or do you make them remain sealed ?

i always open mine, i dont plan on ever selling them so im not worried about it.
i even open ones that are from other regions that i cant watch just because i like looking at the inside.

You say this now, but it can very easily change.

If you do want to start collecting, check out the steelbook forums. You can keep up to date, on what's coming out. Many you can buy online....just watch out for high import fees from some countries. You can also check out the trade forums. Basically, you won't find as many steelbooks here in the U.S., but sometimes you can. Good luck to you.

The Rambo steelbook is German and was taken off shelves due to having the wrong content on the disc. It was withdrawn and subsequently those left with a copy from pre-ordering became a bit lucky.

Most steelbooks are distributed in much larger numbers.

Im planning on being a Steelbook collector, but not one that will buy a Steelbook after I see one is released.

I can wait, and have to. I do collect Blu-Rays though now
