Question Still no sign of Fox?

Its been months since we've seen anything anounced from Fox. Almost every other studio has anounced new titles for this Fall Lineup, and still nothing from Fox.
  • BD+ is here,
  • Piracy, will NEVER be solved, on ANY format, deal with it Fox. Everyone else has.
  • Blu-Ray is out-selling HD-DVD 2 to 1 on most titles, and total volume is 2/3 Blu-Ray. You want a winner. You have one, at least. As good of a winner as your going to get anytime soon.
  • Many other studios who previously have not anounced a format release, have now anounced exclusive Blu-Ray titles this fall.
So whats the hold up? Why the wait? You have a huge backlog of titles to choose from. You have New releases like Die Hard you could crank out this fall. Why in the WORLD are you holding out at this point?

If anyone who reads this forum works for, with or knows sombody at Fox, give em a swift kick in the pants, and/or forward this message to them.

BD+ is finished, but it still has to be implemented and tested. Late september at the earliest to do that properly. THEN you announce when you're sure you're good to go. BD+ has the potential to have MASSIVE incompatibilities, and it needs to be thoroughly tested before you risk tens/hundreds of thousands on disc pressings

That's the beauty of BD+. They crack one scheme, you can write a totally new one

Yes, then they'll crack that scheme and new scheme will come out, then they'll crack that one, and a new scheme will come out, etc, etc...

BD+ maybe help reduce piracy, but as long as someone wants to do it they'll find a way.

Terrific - with a pause in releases of many months each time they do this? Is this what's going to happen, they'll release one new title, it'll get cracked, and they'll stop for 6 months while they implement a new scheme again?

I sure hope not. I think the only reason they diid this now is that it is still early in the game.
DVD's are easily cracked but they still release those.. cause it makes them so much money.
So they just want to make it harder for people to crack these. When it was cracked so early they knew they still had time to fix it and get back in the game.
So right now, I don't think they would try that again since they know that it is getting down to it and this Holiday season will be the big decision-maker/money-maker.

The point is. To cite piracy as a reason to be paralized and NOT release anything is just dumb.

It represents such a small fraction, it is pointless to put everything on hold simply because a small % get "stolen". If that were true for everything, nothing would ever be accomplished. Why should Best Buy open a new store if 1% of all their stuff gets stolen? With Shrink (retail term for stolen or missing merchindice) as high as 1%, you would be an idiot to not open a store in a location that turns a profit on 99% of the rest of your stuff.

Look at Warner Bros. They sold 250k of the title 300. You can't tell me they didn't make some serious cash on that.

I'm sick of the argument that piracy is a reason for not producing a movie or anything else. Its a smoke screen if you ask me. It logically can't possible be the reason.
So my point is, What IS the reason? Why not? Its August. Fall Anouncements are mostly done by now. Fox is going to loose out on some serious revenue from those of us with cash to burn this holiday season. I personally plan on buying a lot of Blu-Ray movies as gifts for my friends. I know i'm not alone.

Its new, for all of us, and we love and want to enjoy it. Give us some titles to buy for god's sake.

/sigh

Personally, I hope that the unannounced reason for the delay is because they are improving their transfer quality. I haven't been impressed with most of the Fox releases I've seen on Blu-ray (X-3 was astonishingly awful PQ -> but the menu kicked some serious @$$). Much like Paramount they seem to be favouring the highly unenjoyable MPEG-2 codec (obviously to save some serious coin and take advantage of their consumers wallets).

I agree that I haven't been impressed with any Fox BD PQ. However, I would really like to have X-men 1 & 2, and the new fantastic four. I have a feeling though Fantastic four will not be on bd day and date with DVD

I'll be pleased to see the end of "why aren't there Fox titles?!" and a return to the good ole "are Fox crazy charging $40 for a movie?!" posts.

Ok. I will admit that 'Behind Enemy Lines' had a pretty decent PQ (AVC)... but it still lacked the necessary definition in its blacks & greys that put the final "oomph" into Hi-Def.

Maybe they should put a different scheme for every small set of blu-rays.

Fox doesn't have much of a presence in my DVD collection. I've only got three titles from them, two of which are small films I wouldn't expect to see on Blu-Ray in the new future.

Sounds reasonable given that the new AACS keys are supposed to be usable in September. While I don't expect BD+ to hold on for long, if it does I think it could have a big impact on what Universal does, so makes sense to try to get it right the first time, even besides how it could help Fox's own titles. Also, if it comes out and there are incompatibilities with some players, that would cause a black eye.

Which Paramount releases are MPEG-2? The ones I've been interested in are MPEG-4.
