I hooked up my speakers and receiver last night and I'm thinking I have something not configured properly.
Do the left and right speaker work independently or are they supposed to be working in conjunction? When I was messing with it last night it seemed as though some sounds could only be heard from the right and others only from the left. |

ahhh... the wonders of good old stereo sound, first introduced in 1931, it allows movies or songs to be played back with... get this... 2 SEPARATE AUDIO CHANNELS!
wait till you get surround sound! they you may hear a sound in 1 speaker that you cannot hear in any of the other 4! |

In music it will depend on the mix, some things are mixed so that you hear certian things from one speaker or the other, drums and vocals are usually mix to come from both so the presentation is more directly in front of you as the speakers image. |

is this music or movies?
some songs (esp. Beatles) are mixed with bass, rhythm guitar in one speaker and vocals and lead guitar in the other (drums tend to be balanced) for movies, check to make sure all of your cables and wires are connected properly, if all seems to be fine, its just the way the audio was mixed for the movie also, speakers NEVER "work in conjunction" if you have 2 speakers connected to different jacks on the receiver, each speaker is receiving an entirely separate signal. Its not like, say you have 2 rooms beside each other, the person in Room 1 SCREAMS and the person in Room 2 can kind of hear it, just not as clearly. Sound doesn't carry over between speakers, when it was mixed it may be say 75% in Left and 25% in Right, but once they save the audio file and burn it onto the disc, each channel is essentially 2 entirely different tracks. |
