Default TX-SR507 Receiver: Shutdown, thought dead, came back?

After a week of short usage times of this new receiver, the device decided to shut down.

The TX-SR507 was in use for about 30 minutes today. At about 30 minutes in, the system went off and there were no signs of life. The red standby light was off, the button would not work, etc...

I unplugged and did standard troubleshooting.

While on the phone with Onkyo, the system turned back on out of nowhere without any input by me. It seemed warm but operates in an open space, above the floor.

It's working fine now. But I can see it dying again soon?

Any idea of what would cause this? There was no power flash and it's on a surge protector.

I would first start out by re-wiring your speakers...most likely a loose connection or wire touching something it shouldn't.

Re-wire at both speaker and receiver end.

Well the speakers have cables coming out of them, so the only risk would be receiver-end. However, those wires have very small amounts of metal showing and don't protrude from the connection ports.

Also, this randomly happened while in use. Nothing has been moved for almost a week since I installed the setup. It was a random fluke... So, I don't know how it would work for that long and suddenly go wacko if it were wires touching. That would have been a short all along?

...not necessarily, you could have a loose connection and never know it...a simple turn up of volume could send it into protect mode (aka shutdown). Has happened to many folks around here, wouldnt be the first time!

Trust me, im not offering this advice because i'm just guessing.

...It very well could be an internal issue with your receiver, faulty power supply etc...but i'm trying to help you trouble shoot more likely scenario first.

Also, what type of speakers are you using?? You say the cable is hard wired to the speaker which leads me to believe its a HTiB speaker?? ...what is the ohm rating? (this could also be your problem)

Agreed and understood. I'll check that out in a bit. Appreciate it much.

The cables appear to be fine.

I'm using speakers from my old Sony surround sound, correct. I don't have money to upgrade those at this time. Their ohm rating is 6. Is that too low?
