Default Onkyo question of the week!!

What is the best Onkyo receiver for around $1000 and why?? Keep in mind this would be used with a PS3 and a Samsung 1080P DLP. "AAAAANNNNNDDDD HERE WE GO....."

I agree with sterryo, unless you can find an 805 somewhere. If you can, jump on it!

I'd go for the 1007 if I had the money now and not an 805

In the five series Onkyos, you're looking at 805 on up.

Since the 806 was such a flop, you're looking at the 876 and 906 to get decent clean power.

The new seven series has a lot to offer on terms of functionality. On terms of power, we'll it'll be a while before reviews come in stating actual power output. On the new seven series, I'd go with 1007 series on up. I was looking at upgrading to a 1007 or 3007 series from my 805!

And the Pio SC-05 is an amazing receiver for the price the member is willing to sell it at. If I had cash to blow and couldn't afford the 1007 series< i'd be all over that Pio.

here's my question-

i have the 804 and for the past 2 months my remote and receiver wont really connect when i want to change volume. i have put in fresh batteries.

is there a setting or button that might have been tripped on the receiver or remote as to why it is not picking up the volume buttons? It seems to change inputs easily

definately an 805. Its been the best built ever done by Onkyo. I heard that the 805 have all 7ch amp working seperately as other models are sharing from a main single amp splitted into 7ch. You can still get an 805 through SHOP ONKYO site.

Weren't the 805's prone to over heating? Such reports are why I opted for my 705.

In any case, I'd wait 'til Onkyo releases their new receivers that are hdmi 1.4 compliant. Even if you don't buy one, the current models should drop in price by then.

My 805 barely gets warm. I don't have it closed in, or anything sitting on top of it. And, my front three speakers are 4 ohms.

This was caused by having the HDMI Control Out set to "ON", in the receiver settings menu in the Onkyo. This was used to control the TV also through HDMI........turning it to "OFF" eliminated any heat issues. Problem was, most units were set to ON at the factory and folks didn't know this.......old news.

If you're set on Onkyo, I say go for the 1007. It has a ton of features, and from what I've read is fairly powerful. It's not as powerful as the 805, so you'll have to decide what is more important to you. Or you could add an amp in the future.

The SC-05 is also a great option.
