![]() Jak and Daxter Collection Coming to PS3 with HD, 3D, Trophies + Posted by Evan Wells // Co-President, Naughty Dog Greetings all, hopefully you’ve been getting to spend some quality time with UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception these past few weeks. We are grateful for all the positive fan feedback and thank you for the support! I’m not here today to talk about U3, though. We’ve been getting many, many requests asking about Jak and Daxter coming to PS3, and I’m happy to announce that the series will make its PS3 debut this February with the launch of the Jak and Daxter Collection. The Jak and Daxter Collection features three of our favorite Jak and Daxter titles – Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II, and Jak 3 – all remastered by Mass Media, working closely with our team at Naughty Dog. With the launch of Jak and Daxter Collection, you’ll be able to experience the adventures of Jak and his Daxter in 720p high definition with crisper visuals, smoother gameplay animation, and in full stereoscopic 3D. And, I’m sure all of you hardcore collectors will be happy to hear that each game in the trilogy features full PS3 trophy support. The Jak and Daxter franchise set a benchmark for the platformer genre with its huge environments and gaming freedom. In fact, it holds seven world records in the Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition 2008 including the First Seamless 3D World in a Console Game. As you can imagine, there’s a lot of love for the franchise here at Naughty Dog, and it has a very special place in our hearts. If you can believe it, the Jak and Daxter franchise will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year on December 4th and we’ll be checking in with you via the PlayStation.Blog to help us celebrate. In the meantime, let me know your favorite Jak and Daxter memories in the comments and be sure to stay tuned to the blog to for the latest Jak and Daxter Collection news. they released the sly trilogy and i had never played a sly game before. i enjoyed the first 1 and half but then it felt like a chore.. with Jak and Daxter i played when they were out on ps2 i believe there is enough change between games to not feel like im playing the same thing over and over again... im pretty hyped up for this release

Jak II alone is worth this set. It takes a few a few of the popular genre/gameplay mechanics of the time and expertly meshes them together resulting in a game with very few faults. They also melded in shooter mechanics which eventually you are required to pull off WHILE platforming and jumping around and it is SUBLIME. The shooting mechanics are quite tight and so fun that just doing the target range mini-games is a blast. The game engine is a PS2 marvel with incredible draw distance and LOD tricks allowing some really great backdrops and set pieces. Generally speaking, the game sits you in a GTA III inspired semi-open city that hubs out into smaller focused missions oustside the city. Many of these missions employ unique mechanics and atmosphere that other companies might design whole games around. The overall adventure is much more adult, with some decent fake politics and drama. As well, the world is darker and sci-fi-ish and there are many crewd jokes and a few cuss words throughout. Jak II is one of the top tier games from the PS2. Its also has a great challenging difficulty that really forces you to make the most of the mechanics. Jak 3 streamlines what II did into a more accessible and smaller scale. Some of the reviews for Jak II complained about it being too demanding for the player and therefore, too hard. I read several of these reviews and cannot figure how those people could otherwise appreciate gaming enough to write about it professionally. Literally every difficulty complaint I've seen on Jak II is chalked up to lazyness or missing the point of games that actually make you do stuff. Yeah, In addition to some streamlining and scale adjustments, It also makes logical additions to the gameplay that while cool, can be a bit too powerful. Maybe because they sometimes feel like they aren't fully realized so I was left feeling like the game was overall easier and also that it didn't quite do all it could have with the gameplay presented. It does do a lto of fun stuff, though. It just not always difficult. One of the core aspect of 3 is some great stuff with desert dune buggies. At first it may seem kind of dumb but it gets really fun and I imagine remains 4x better than whatever Rage pretends its doing... Jak 3 also tones down some of the darker themes and adult oriented jokes of II. But still incorporates the precursor lore from II, making for a satisfying adventure that is just about "right" in tone. |
