Default What do you look for in a movie?

Hey,

Are you a movie buff?

If so what do you enjoy in a movie?

Dialogue, cinematography, soundtrack etc....

Discuss any movie you enjoyed and way you like it.

I start with Jennifer's Body, I think the movie may become the next generation cult in a sense. The acting in my opinion was okay, nothing serious but a popcorn flick.

What contributed more to the experience was the soundtrack. I enjoyed the soundtrack and thought that without the soundtrack the movie couldn't have been as good

What do you think?

Enjoy.

Fun and entertainement and a nice way for me to escape and relax. That is why my collection look's strange sometimes for someone looking at it, it's almost impossible to know what movie will catch me enough to make me buy it.

First and foremost, the story is the most important part for me. It doesn't have to be something complicated or "intellectual", but i have to be intrigued by the story the movie is telling.

Right after that comes the cinematography, how it was filmed, composed, cut and it how reflects (or contrasts) the story.

If a movie "clicks" with me, that's all I'm worried about and all I look for.

I like the individual aspects of the movie and everything, but I don't go in looking for a particular bar level of excellence in them. If stuff I read or the trailer intrigues me without even knowing jack about the movie (Inception), I see it.

Boobies of hot actresses.

But seriously, a good story above all. That's the most important thing to me regardless of it being a drama, action, or suspense.

First most MOVIES HAVE TO BE ENTERTAINMENT!You should be able to lose yourself when watching a movie. To get lost & involved into the movie story line makes a good picture.Just like reading a good book.To purchase a movie you should think about is the movie something I'll be re watching or just wasting my money! If wasting is the answer RENT IT!

Technical aspects like cinematography, editing, and sound are huge pluses for me, but in the end it's gotta have that mood or vibe that simply sucks me into the world that the film is creating.

something that grabs me and wont let go. it must hold my attention for 1.5 hrs +. i want to think to myself there is almost nothing that will make me leave this seat until this is over.

also if its an action movie i want to see true to life gun play. for example: if you have a contract killer, then he should know how to handle a weapon right? how to move with it, how to draw it quickly and hit his target. Micheal Mann is excellent at getting his actors trained on firearms.

They have to have something compelling, whether it be the acting, the melodrama, the dramatic tension, the cinematography, or anything else. If it doesn't have a compelling element to capture the viewer, then it has to be fun. There is nothing worse than a poorly made movie that takes itself too seriously.

It has to be entertaining. Movies are a means for me to escape, so I have to intrigued or entertained by the movie to like it. That said, I like well written/acted movies that happen to be entertaining, but I do enjoy the silly stuff on occasion. If a movie can make me forget about the stressors in my life for 1.5+ hours, then I like the movie.

I am not a big fan of depressing movies or "message" movies. As I said, I use movies to escape from, not add to, the real world. A well done entertaining movie will always trump a depressing/"message" movie for me, no matter how good the depressing movie is.

I want the film to hold my attention and interest, and to make me feel what it's trying to do rather than just see it and go "hey, thats interesting". That's where Moon failed for me, it was an interesting idea but they didn't make me feel it.
Whatever methods filmmakers use to accomplish this doesn't really matter, this is an artform, get creative.
