Default My Thoughts on Kinect

So my Kinect came in today after paying $100.00 after gift cards I had from pre ordering other games.

Is there lag? Yes, However not as bad as you would expect and certainly not enough to ruin the game experience.

Is spacing an issue ? Yes, I had to move my couch back about 2ft that is all but still was more then I would have wanted to

I feel like I was lied to though almost every ad shows them controlling Netflix and come to find out it does not support it thats what really pissed me off. Also controlling the dashboard did give me that wow factor for about 10min then I remembered how much faster the control is.I was at the point were I wanted to take it back BUT!!!!!

My wife and daughter got home and and started playing Kinect adventures and they just loved it. My daughter was not attracted to wii when we had it but this thing she was jumping and having fun, So at the end of the day I have decided to keep it if my girls enjoy it more then I do but thats fine in fact there playing it right now and not getting off.

I think there will be some issues next week when Black ops comes out and they want to play Kinect

Take it back. There Wow factor might last just long enough to where your return policy is over.

Interesting thoughts. I don't own a 360, but I have been curious about this. I think that all the motion stuff has it's strengths and weaknesses. From the sound of things, Microsoft will do well with this as it appealed to the intended audience, family and younger kids.

my dad thinks my brother would like it for x-mas so we have one on the way from amazon... I just ordered the other day and I'm not convinced they'll have them in-stock by the ship date... But I bet I'd feel the same as you underwhelmed.

I think for non HC gamers or wanna be's like my brother it wouldn't be our cup of tea... But who knows I might be totally wrong when he opens it and sets it up.

I'm more on the hardcore side of gaming, and I think the Wii is kinda' clown-shoes ridiculous... but I set Kinect up last night and played a bit of Kinect Adventures with a friend over Live, and it was a blast! It's amazing how well the motion tracking works.

I agree that it's a bit clunky for the dashboard itself, mostly because we're all so used to zipping in and out of stuff with the controller. That said, I did find myself using the voice commands for stuff... and I had so much fun with the pack-in game that I drove to Gamestop and picked up Kinect Sports. Bowling and Table Tennis totally make this worth having, and I see myself playing that more than anything.

So yeah... a cool bit of tech... but I think they're just scraping the tip of the iceberg with the current batch of games. Bring on Steel Batallion!

So I played a bit of Kinet adventures and it was pretty fun. People say ohh these games are not challenging but try racket ridge level 4 OMG that was so hard and I'm fealing tired my legs are so sore. Also after we mounted the kinet above the tv we noticed we had less space issues for some reason.

I played Kinect Adventures last night...it was a blast. My 3-year-old daughter was also having fun just mimicking my on-screen avatar. I liked using the Kinect Hub and voice commands...unfortunately, my daughter would repeat the voice commands and confuse the system (ended up starting a video trailer when I was trying to open the disc tray); had to get her to stop. I'm definitely going to pick up some new games today: Kinectimals (for my daughter), Dance Central (for my wife) and Kinect Sports (for me). Good job, Microsoft.

Oh yeah, to the OP...Netflix Kinect support will be added in an upcoming update. What's currently available in the Kinect Hub is only the beginning.

FYI: There are demos for Joy Ride, Dance Central and Your Fitness on the Adventures disc. I played like 15 seconds of Dance Central before I realized... yeah... not for me.

On the main menu screen, move your hand to the bottom left corner. It should say demos or something over there. No one I know even noticed it at first.

There's also a Joy Ride demo up for download on Live, but I'm pretty sure it's the same thing that's on the Adventures disc.

just avoid the Sonic game, the control is not as bad as some critics let on, but it's bad enough that doing anything with precision (hitting grind ramps and transitioning between them) is a major chore. I gamefly'd it, and moved fighters uncaged, which is apparently so broken it can barely be played way down on my list.

Kinect is awesome. I've played every day since launch for several hours a day, and I've purchased 5 of the launch titles. Kinect has one thing that the Wii and Move do not: Xbox Live. Playing Kinect Adventures online (especially with family members living 1000 miles away) is just too sweet. Sharing photos/videos of stupid behavior: priceless. The hardware/games may not be perfect, but Microsoft has really nailed the overall experience. Definitely looking forward to future Kinect titles/experiences.

+1 to this. I played some Kinect Adventures with a friend in Texas, and I was surprised at how well it worked. I don't know that I'll be sharing any videos of me playing Kinect Sports with anyone though, 'cause I'm fully conscious of how ridiculous I look playing table tennis in the air.

Really, you guys like Kinect Adventures? I think it's horrible, myself. I bought this damned Kinect for some reason and I'm really starting to regret it. I don't know if you guys had low expectations or what but the technical issues are grating beyond belief. Lag is worse than a lot of people are saying (especially on Kinect Adventures) and the menu system is atrocious. After about an hour, I went back to normal games, and found that all Kinect had done is enhance my appreciation of dualshocks and whatever the normal Xbox control is called. I guess I'll keep the Kinect but I just don't think I'm ever going to play it much. Time to put it next to my Wii and ignore the both of them, I guess.
