Default American Gangster-anyone had a problem with defective discs?

Has anyone had a problem with this blu ray? I picked it up from Best Buy last week and less than 20 mins into it, the sound starts skipping. I picked up a new copy today and it is doing the same thing and it starts at the same spot. I'm using a Samsung 6500 and the firmware is up to date. The skipping is on the extended version but I just went to the same spot on the theatrical version and it does not skip at that point. Anyone else had this problem?

At what point is it skipping? When I get off work today I'll go home and see if mine does the same thing...

Thanks, I appreciate it.

On the extended version only, the first skip is right around 19:35. It is in the scene where Frank puts money down on the table to pay the 20% the other guy asks. The next one is around 45 mins, I don't remember where exactly, and another in minute 54. On the theatrical version, I only checked at the first scene and it played fine. I have not checked the 2nd and 3rd skips on this version.

I'm going to finish watching thru the whole thing and then take it in to BB and have them play it on their player and see what happens.

Dang.. I should really check my copy out. I think I bought it on Amazon last year but never watched it.

I went through those 3 time segments and had no issues with my disc on Extended Theatrical Version. Maybe you should have them order your disc online as the ones they have in store are a defective shipment? Just an idea.

Thanks. When I go to the store, if it skips in their player too, I will see if they will open one to try it. If not, there is another BB I will be near on Saturday so I can try one from there. If they say it is the player, I bought it from there and got the service plan so maybe I can get a new one.

Well, I watched another hour and it just got worse. In one 2 minute section the sound cut out 3 times and twice it froze completely. It would only start again when I rewound for a few seconds and then restarted. I couldn't take it anymore. So it is going back tomorrow. I bought it with Wanted in the 2 for $20 deal so I hope it doesn't screw that up. I used a $5 rz cert so $7.50 each was a good deal. I hope they can find me a good copy.

Checked mine and the 3 time sections were fine. I got my copy almost a year ago. I am using a PS3 however. Also after reading your post you did state that this is your 2nd copy. My friend had the same problem only years ago with a laserdisc. Turns out the player was defective, not the disc. Than again I am sure that it could be anything by now. Good luck.

Well, this is really weird. I did a search online last night to see if there were any old threads with the same problem. I found a post where a guy said it would not play correctly in bitstream. I just changed my settings from bitstream to pcm and I went back to those sections and the sound was fine. And the part where the picture froze didn't happen either. On the receiver it only shows multi ch pcm instead of DTS MA though so I don't know how much of a difference it will be in audio quality. I set the player on bitstream re-encode and there is a slight hiccup in those same spots but it doesn't cut out completely like it does on bitstream audiophile.

So does that mean the player is defective or is it just a fluke? I haven't had any other problems in over 50 other movies and I've only had this player since the spring. I've got the extended warranty so if I start to have more problems, I will take it back. Maybe it would be worth a call to Samsung to see if this is a known issue. My receiver is the Onkyo 608. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what might be the problem.
