Default All-Time BD Sales Rank

Where can I find a list of the all-time blu-ray movies sold in the U.S?

You can't. No such list has been compiled, to the best of my knowledge, as unit sales numbers are typically not released to the public for most individual titles.

You can find general, weekly sales updates in Home Media Magazine. But they are typically just expressed as a % of overall weekly sales for the top 20 titles that particular week. There's no constantly updated "All Time Best Seller" list.

Every so often, HMM does release their estimated units sold list.

The list used to be published, I know I've seen it before. But this was a few years ago when things like top sellers mattered more, as the format war was being waged. At one point the top seller was the Dark Knight Returns BD.

I haven't seen that list published for several years, at least.

I thought I saw one posted last year at HD Digest that had Avatar #1 with about 5 million sold. I don't think anything has overtaken it.

It seems odd to me. You can easily find figures for concert blu-rays, or cds, but not for dvds/blu-rays.

One could argue no one cares about it, but I don't think it's true considering box office figures are so highly publicized.

I think the studios pay companies to maintain their BD sales, which is probably a costly ordeal. I don't think Walmart shares their media sales with anyone outside of the studios, so these sites always have to estimate a % of titles that were sold from WM.

That chart has widely been discredited, and is nothing more than guesswork and *rough* estimates at best. Plus, there is no "all time" feature there, as the OP requested.

It even says right under the chart: "Precise information on Blu-ray sales is not generally available"

Again, hard figures on Blu-ray unit sales are typically not released to the public. So for us to compile an all time sales list is going to be nearly impossible.

Thanks for your replies. I would have thought that at least retailers like Amazon and Best Buy would have these sales figures since they would be so easy to compile from the yearly sales ranks. It's odd that no one wants to publish it.

You said #s arent released....i know its not an alltime list but #s are released.

No #s are exactly right even the nielsen ratings drift.

Home media mag was also mentioned & these #s do align with the % sales #s they release.

I always went to the numbers for weekly units, I wish sometimes they would have a all time list but unfortunately not, I only go to the numbers because everyone else has a percentage from blu-to-dvd. I want the unit numbers!

Right, I said unit sales numbers aren't typically released. And they aren't.

The chart provided in your link contains guesses, and by most reports, not good ones.

I've seen the figures on that site. It also says at the bottom, "Historical Blu-ray sales data is available from our OpusData data service. Please email us at sales@opusdata.com if you are interested in a trial of the Video Market service, which includes weekly tracking of DVD sales, Blu-ray sales and video rentals. "

My guess is that the their data is limited. Anyone tried that data service ?

Once again, Home Media Magazine has posted all-time sales figures in the past. They did last year. I don't have time to try and track down a copy, so you'll just have to take my word for it. The only way you'll find exact numbers is if you can somehow convince every studio to give you their sales figures, which of course, won't happen.

So HMM is the best there is available for the public. To my knowledge, Avatar is still #1. And by this point, it's probably up to 6 million sold in the US. I'm sure The Hunger Games, one of the Twilight movies, The Dark Knight, 300 and Toy Story 3 are in the top 10. The Avengers will join that group rather quickly. And I'd guess The Dark Knight Rises will as well.

There is a company that tracks media sales as best as you can, but the information is proprietary and sold to companies as a monthly subscription. They would not publish that information for free, but studios love knowing how other studios are doing in the market.

But why isn't that information public? If box office figures are released to the general public on a daily basis, why is it that dvd sales remain a secret?
