It's easy to say certain albums are underrated when they are from obscure artists. However what about from the artists that are well established?? In your opinion, what are the most underrated albums from mainstream artists?? Here is my top 5...
5.) "Shaman" by Santana ![]() This album was the follow up to the wildly popular "Supernatural." While I won't say this album is better, I would say it's every bit as good. Yes it follows the same basic formula as Supernatural where Carlos Santana collaborates with current artists. However the songs here are every bit as strong imo. 4.) "Goats Head Soup" by The Rolling Stones. ![]() Though the Stones are more known for albums like Exile on Mainstreat and Tattoo You. Goats Head Soup is what I like to call a great "mood" album. There are no standout tracks on the album but it's one of those you can put on and listen from beginning to end and sort of mellow out. 3.) "Slave to the Grind" by Skid Row ![]() Though more well known for their 80's "hair metal" era. Skid Row put out Slave to the Grind at a time when grunge was establishing itself as the sound of the early 90's. In my opinion this was a very forward thinking album and is just laced with killer tune after tune! Heavy as hell and of course, how can you not love Sebastian Bach's vocals! 2.) "Coverdale Page" by David Coverdale and Jimi Page ![]() Another casuality of the 90's. This is just a kick ass blues/rock collaboration between 2 icons of rock! I bought this one back when it first came out and I STILL spin it to this day!! Songs like Take Me For a Little While, Absolution Blues, and Whisper a Prayer For The Dying are just golden! 1.) "Walk On" by Boston ![]() This IMO is one of the greatest tragedies in terms of albums going unnoticed. Due to ongoing legal battles with their label, Boston had not put out a new album in 10 years! Their lead singer Brad Delp was no longer with them. And grunge had a choke hold on the music scene. Then out comes Walk On and it just continues to blow me away to this day!! New singer Fran Cosmo comes in and does a more than admiral job at filling Brad Delp's shoes! With stellar production, killer guitar tone, soaring harmonizing vocals, rich Hammond B organ playing, and epic-ness found everywhere. Walk On absolutely deserved better in terms of popularity!! Had this album came out in the late 70's or 80's, it would've enjoyed multi-platinum success. I am convinced of it!! The Walk On Medley alone is worth the price of this cd but there are so many more great songs on this album!! Last edited by Steelmaker; 04-17-2010 at 03:13 PM. |
