Default Undermoderated forum?

Lot's of things come up, including movies and games, that tweak someone in a political, religious or otherwise emotional way.

I have participated in other forums where a section was reserved for discussion of such topics, not subject to locking, deleting or member banning. It was the Homebrew Digest Forum, to be specific. I RARELY visited that section, because I was there only to discuss the home production of adult beverages and related topics.

Moderators might consider such a thing, with a disclaimer that they don't endorse, agree with, condone or whatever else with respect to opinions expressed. It would also be prudent to still prohibit discussion of certain things, like production of explosive, illicit drugs or the use of racial or other slurs, like the N-word, the D-word, the C-word or the R-word, among others.

The moderators may also then feel comfortable taking a harder stance against such discussion in "regular" threads.

Just an idea to toss out there. There may be legal ramifications that prohibit such a thing.

I wouldn't consider a couple of people most members but this is still a good idea there needs to be a section where opinions can flow freely without being worried about getting suspended or banned

I'm not sure i understand why you guys are so adamant on having a unmodded section where you can talk about politics, religion and whatever else you can get into a heated arguement with someone about.

This is a Blu-ray Website.

I understand people like to have off topic conversations on here but there is a section for that. If you wanna have discussions like the ones you talk about then why not go to a forum that specializes in that. Not a website dedicated to Blu-ray and Hi Def. Just doesn't make sense to me. Just my opinion though

offtopic.com

The admins have already tried that card(politics and religion) and too many problems occured. I dont believe I would not want to be around to witness 'unmoderated' mayhem. I have read a few of your posts and I need say no more
If you wanna talk dirty, get a girlfriend or IM..Thats as unmoderated as it gets

I frequent a site that features a forum area like this (called The Black Hole, free talk, not moderated). It gets a little crazy in there from time to time, and this is on a site waaaaay smaller than this one. I couldn't see it working here very well...

Not a public forum though, it's a privately owned and funded forum and posting here is a privilege and not a right. Makes sense to me.

Pretty much this response, I see no problems with how it is runned at the moment to be honest, I love this place.
Why try to fix something that is not broken?

I wasn't talking about the site specifically but more in general

No, as it has been stated, this is a privately owned forum and there are a set of guidelines presented to members upon joining which they are expected to follow . No one is forcing you to post here...you are always welcome to venture elsewhere to seek out your desired discussion .

And I'll send you a microphone I haven't used in 15 years so you can be heard throughout the land! I just don't want to hear it here!

There are other forums for this type of thing....... The type of forum it is, usually dictates it's membership.......

With that said, I think it's safe to say, that Blu-ray.com isn't interested in attracting that type of membership.

This is similar to demanding a Blu-ray section on a gardening forum...... it's not wanted there.... I think the number of topics that are tolerated here is pretty wide, so if you can't stay within those broad confines, I don't know what else to tell you...... There are other forums out there.

It's a privately owned forum. Free speech doesn't extend to it.

You give up your rights to totally free speech by agreeing to the rules when you join.
