For legal reasons (Madman are stupid) I'd have to login to get access to their 'forum' to get promo images to post nice big images here giving them free advertising.

Idiots.

Very nice, thanks.

Hopefully this'll give the film a bit more oxygen internationally. Crime films like this aren't more noticed.

Bumping this in the hope that someone has this title! It's not even listed when you search on the site's main page.
Do you know if they fixed the reversed audio issue (that affected the dvd release) for the blu-ray?

As a reminder:
Quote:
The aforementioned fault relates to the Dolby 5.1 audio track, which was accidentally reversed during the authoring of the DVD. Basically, this means any directional sound that should come from the right channel for example, comes through the left channel. This tends to distort the entire sound experience and lets down the marvelous, AFI Award winning sound design. Ironically, it's the quieter scenes that bring the more obvious examples of this fault. Some of these examples include, characters talking at 19:28, 29:30 and a passing car at 38:23.

My Blu Ray copy of Noise arrived from Madman this morning.

Perfectly packaged in a box much larger than required.

Very happy with the fast delivery time.

Now I must say that I was ready for disappointment...seems that great Australian films are more often that not treated with a lower level of quality control when it comes to DVD / Blu Ray.

...but was I wrong...incredibly wrong.

The transfer is nothing short of jaw dropping.

I skipped through all chapters watching a couple of minutes of each.

I could pick out eyelashes, single grey hairs, skin pores, individual layers of ash in a close up of a cigarette....every single detail is there.

Blacks are rock solid...this transfer is breathtaking.

I watched the DVD version a few weeks ago...always thought it looked pretty good but the Blu Ray version blows it away.

Soundtrack is LPCM 5.1 and after testing several scenes repeatedly, I can confidently say they have fixed the original "reversed" soundtrack issue.

If you're a fan of this film, then head straight to Madman's website and order it.

I have never seen the Blu Ray version of Noise on shelves so this may be the only way to get it.

One of my favourite films is now one of my favourite Blu Ray discs.

My girlfriend has just walked in the room and is currently sitting transfixed to the screen....even she has commented on how great this disc looks....

This doesn't appear to be in the database. How do you add it in?

Can someone comment on the aspect ratio? I think I remember reading somewhere this BD presents the film at 1.78:1, whereas the film's proper AR is apparently 2.35:1 (I know this is how the DVDs were presented). Could be this was shot full frame and the BD merely opens up the matte to 1.78:1 (if that's indeed the case), but if so and it's deliberate it seems an odd decision.

Could be director approved if it is.. The World's Fastest Indian was opened up to 1.78:1 because Donaldson preferred it (in the US release).

Just got my blu-ray from Madman. It is indeed opened out to 1.78:1.
I have done a simple side by side comparison (by eye) with the dvd and there doesn't seem to be any image information missing (no significant cropping left and right, only added height top and bottom).
Bizarrely I think many of the compositions actually gain from the opened out ratio, they seem more "pleasing" and well "composed"! Wish I could take screen shots to show what I mean!
I am a bit miffed that I didn't know about the altered ratio before ordering and Madman don't exactly make it clear on the packaging but there's nothing I can actually find fault in. The transfer is head and shoulders above the dvd and is really quite a beaut.
It would be nice to get official confirmation about why the ratio was altered though.

shame, dvd is dodgy quality but no reason to really open up the frame IMHO.

I contacted Madman to ask why the blu-ray release is presented in a different aspect ratio to the dvd.

This was the reply, which doesn't help at all (in terms of establishing if this is a decision the director made) but at least they replied.

Quote:
The original DVD was mastered from a 2.35:1 letterboxed master which was masked down to that letterbox ratio.

The more recent blu-ray release was mastered from a newer high definition master where some of the matte was removed so you are actually seeing more image. This image will fill the screen on a widescreen TV.
