Why are Blu-ray exclusives released on HD DVD in some other countries? - Blu-ray Forum

I dont quite understand why Blu-ray exclusives, even movies from sony pictures are released on HD-DVD over seas? i mean is the US the only place where they're exclusive? someone explain?

Because they're owned by different studios with different allegiences overseas

And movies like Cinderella Man and others come out on Blu overseas

Titanic will be both in the US (assuming HD lives that long) but Blu only overseas

From what I understand, movies are owned by different studios overseas. So where it might be owned by Sony or Fox here in the states, a different studio may have owned the rights and realeased it in other countries. This can result in movies that are not due out on Blu in the US be be avail on Blu in other countries. Also movies that would be HDDVD or Blu exclusive in the US may not hold true in other countries.

Yes and no...I believe the players are however some movies are published all region.

I dont think it is yet. But will be soon. I have seen post of some saying they ordered Blu's from overseas that are not yet available in the US. Good news is regions are wider now then they were with DVD. Bad news is if you want imports from Europe, we are not in that region.
