AIX Launches 3D Music Albums
The audiophile record label has produced new live surround-sound and stereo recordings that used 3D cameras and will be available as 3D Blu-ray discs.

August 17, 2010 | by Robert Archer

After three days of live recording with equipment like Panasonic’s 3D A1 cameras, AIX Records has finished production of what it calls the industry’s first 3D music albums.

The live 3D albums were recorded at the Colburn School of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, and according to AIX Records founder and president Mark Waldrep, Ph.D, the recordings are engineered to make the at-home audience experience more like a personal artistic performance. “These 3D music albums will be the first of their kind; the next level of intimate one-on-one music enjoyment in your own home theater,” he explains.

“These are not live concerts with thousands of screaming fans, but rather personal, private performances with our award-winning audiophile quality sound.”

AIX Records will make the recordings available for commercial broadcast and they’ll also be available as 3D Blu-ray discs.

The recordings, which include performances from Rita Coolidge, Mark Chesnutt, James Walker and Free Flight and The Old City String Quartet, provide music fans and A/V technology enthusiasts the opportunity to purchase live 3D HD content. “Imagine having Rita Coolidge or Mark Chesnutt singing 10 feet in front of you in the comfort of your own home,” boasts Waldrep.

“I might listen to a live concert DVD or BD disc one time, but an incredible sounding, surround music album is something that can be enjoyed over and over again with or without the video.”

In addition to the new recordings from Los Angeles, AIX has also released its “Goldberg Variations Acoustica” 3D Blu-ray disc, which offers home theater enthusiasts a 1280x720p HD picture, and a choice between a 5.1 Dolby True HD audio mix and a 24-bit/96kHz PCM two channel mix.

The Goldberg disc features the AIX All-Star Band, which is led by the guitar player Laurence Juber, and it contains nearly 60 minutes of 3D HD content.

I wish Mark all the Best but I cant get from this new development why in a world people need 3D glasses to listen 3D Music.
yes, you can get 3D camera and shoot the performer but in terms that it is not a future film or 3D animation I will question that end user will find a value of that.
However I may be wrong and maybe some will

I went to the cinema to see the DMB in 3D feature - I would DEFINITELY pick it up on Blu-ray if they release it.

I ordered this today. After I ordered it they sent me a message stating that the disc is having problems playing on both the Samsung and LG 3D players. But firmware for it is being worked on.

I called them up and talk to them on the phone about it too. It's kind of annoying since my player is a Samsung. They assured me that Samsung is aware of the issue and is working to fix it. They said they would be happy to give me a refund later if I needed one. Just kind of sucks that I'll have to wait to watch it. I'll probably be getting a different player eventually anyway. I just don't want to right now. Hopefully it won't take too long for the firmware fix.

So they couldn't find a hot, big-breasted female musician to throw into the Goldberg Variations Acoustica 3D blu-ray? What's the point of watching this then?

Mine just came in the mail today. I put it in and was delighted to discover that even though they told me it is not playing on Samsung players, it plays on my Samsung player just fine.

This disc is actually very cool. It's not for everyone of course. It's a fifty minute long jam session. The music is very beautiful and sounds incredible in HD surround. I would by this even if it was only in 2D.

This is the first taste of live action 3D I've gotten to see on my TV, and it's very impressive. The show itself isn't super exciting or anything. It's just a small group of guys sitting there playing their instruments, with the camera getting them from different angles. But the 3D looks so good that it makes you feel as if you are sitting right there with them.

The nearly complete lack of ghosting is a bit of a surprise too, since there is a very black backdrop behind the players making for very high contrast. Even the bald guy in the white shirt was not ghosting against the black. I hope there are a lot more music concerts done in 3D. That would be sweet. I don't get the 3D haters. This is really the only way to watch TV. Can't wait to see how Resident Evil looks on Blu-ray 3D

I'm going to call AIX records back and let them know the disc is playing fine in my Samsung, and that I really enjoy the show.

Edit: watched it again and did notice some ghosting on the bald drummer in a white shirt. But only when the he was seen from a distance.
