Default Lovely Molly (8/28/12)

I just finished watching Lovely Molly. Wow. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I didn't go in expecting much...and that was probably for the best.

Eduardo Sanchez, the man who launched a million "found footage" films through his debut film, The Blair Witch Project, has been steadily pumping out films since that out of nowhere phenomenon. Altered and Seventh Moon are both worth seeking out, by the way.

Anyways, I don't want to say much about this film, as I don't want to risk posting a possible spoiler. But, I do want to say that if you like films that are in the same style of the underrated psychological/horror gem, Session 9...then I suggest you try Lovely Molly on for size.

It is a well directed and powerfully acted film that will stay with you long after watching it.

There is a scene towards the end of the film that will keep me looking over my shoulder late at night for the next couple of weeks. Extremely unsettling.

Highly recommended during this Halloween season!!

Is it really on the same level as Session 9 (is it nearly as good, or nearly as creepy)? Most of the reviews seem to be pretty underwhelming...

I'll put it this way...it's the first film in a loooong time to give me the chills like Session 9. Take that for what it's worth.

Just watched this last night on Netflix and then ordered it on Blu ray from Amazon this morning. Pretty good, creepy film. If you demand answers then this film is not for you. However I thought the answer to what was going on was apparent some may not find it to be so.

The actress in this film was great. In fact all the actors were top notch.

I read a book called Hostage to the Devil which delt with modern day possesions (if you believe in that sort of thing) and this film delt with the subject manner in a way much like this book explains. But the film still is open for interpretation.

The original poster compared it with Session 9. Personally I like Lovely Molly much more then Session 9. While I enjoyed that film I did not feel the need for additional viewing. I will be watching Molly again for years to come.

Just checked this out. Loved it. If you like your horror ambiguous, well acted and with an unsettling psychological factor, this is for you. Those who expect/demand answers will hate it.

I watched this on Netflix Instant late one night and the 2nd to last scene was so creepy to me and caught me off guard in such a genuine way (i.e. nothing cheap) that I didn't go to sleep until the sun came up.

I'm pulling this one up from the silent grave. This somewhat obscure and criminally underrated little gem continues to be a creepy, suspenseful, uncomfortable, spooky, well-acted, very effective haunting/horror/possession flick with great re-watch value, sympathetic characters, and a handsome-looking blu ray transfer. I like it enough that I bought a spare copy for my library, under the assumption that it may not be in print much longer. For me, it easily outshines many of the newer releases we've been seeing in the horror genre over the last few years, which are a bit childish and not genuinely scary, not very atmospheric, and lacking sympathetic, believable characters we can relate to. I would indeed put this in the same class and company as other eerie, well-acted, character-driven horror cult semi-classics such as Session 9, Sinister, Haunt, The Babadook, The Messengers, The Skeptic, and the like.

I have to agree with other posters here- this is a very good, better than the ratings given to it by IMDB and the one here. Very dark subject matter with more darkness added on top of that. Like others, kept thinking about it throughout the night and kept me checking little noises all night long.
Also went in expecting not much at all, I honestly thought I'd give it a few minutes and then I'd probably end up turning it off. Grabbed me almost immediately and didn't let go. Definitely recommend this to horror move fans, don't let the underwhelming, and just plain wrong, reviews turn you off. Last thing, I watch too many movies thinking "this was rated R"? This one earns that R, hard R imho. Please give it a try. Good enough to add it to my collection after watching it for the first time.

definitely an overlooked hidden gem. Gretchen Lodge goes all the way too. Really great performance from her (almost Sheryl Lee in FWWM-esque)

I'm totally happy to see this is getting attention 8 years later.

Better late than never. This would come to myattnetion every once in a while and I remember thinking the art/poster looked like every other of it's type, pass. Glad I was wrong. Also, Time really does fly- it's just yesterday that I remember seeing Alexandra Holt in that Aerosmith video and thinking she was cute as buttons. Man, time really does fly by at warp seed.

Agree with you all. This film is really underrated and very creepy. Even I don’t talk about it enough but when it comes up I recommend it to people. Very effective, dark and chilling film.

I, too, didn't immediately watch this despite the fact that I was a fan of The Blair Witch Project. But when I finally did check it out it exceeded my expectations. Every now and then I'm caught off guard by a Horror movie that legitimately creeps me out.

It's icing on the cake that the very solid blu ray transfer both looks and sounds good, too. Sports a clear, natural looking transfer that still holds up well in 2020, without any real problems or processing issues, and a healthy amount of detail for its age. Also, despite not having very much boisterous action, it nonetheless features an effectively creepy, nuanced soundtrack with easily audible dialogue, and punchy, balanced effects that don't blast you out of the movie and have you scrambling for the remote. A nice, very watchable presentation of the film all around.
