Default Pioneer Elite Kuro Projector PRO-FPJ1

Looking to move up into a projector can anyone provide any input on the Pioneer Elite Kuro Projector PRO-FPJ1. I am wondering how the picture quality would compare to the Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-151FD that I am currently using in my theatre. Is $4500 a good price??? Any information on the best mfg for screens would also be helpful.

Would any of you guys know the name of a good high end shop in New Orleans all I have found here is Best Buys

The projector might be a decent deal for somethings such as less than $3K and with warranty. But you are buying a projector that is a couple of generations back (It's basically a JVC RS2 clone). For that money, buy the JVC RS15, or a used RS20 if they have it around that price and offer a warranty. The latest generation JVC projectors have improved their color accuracy and offer 120Hz refresh rates. You might also want to consider a used Sony VPL-HW70 if it also offers a warranty.

If you buy any projector, especially when used and even new, always get a warranty.

Thanks for the info.....I hate to admit it but I have no idea on which projector to buy. I just figured I would go with a Pioneer because I am so happy with the 151.

If you had 4-5k to spend just on the projector were would you start?

Here is a website that offers projectors.

http://www.projectorpeople.com/proje...projectors.asp

The JVC projectors offer excellent performance, especially their newer generation models and their prices. You can also consider some of the newer LCD projectors they have released such as the Epson Home cinema 8500 or the Panasonic AE4000, as they are also excellent performers and are very affordable at their prices, although they are not as reliable and deep as the JVCs or Sony LCoS projectors.

You may also want check out this website.

http://www.projectorcentral.com/

This offers helpful hints on projectors and a few things important when using them. Screen and environment are very important to the performance of the projectors.

Yeah, I have the FPJ1 and its a stunning projector. But not worth $4500 anymore. In fact I got it for $3000 a year ago brand new, so yeah, not a great price at $4500. It is the JVC RS2, just with a different case and is now a 2-3 years old technology. If you want to spend $4500 I would try and get the JVC RS20 which is a better overall projector and an upgrade over the JVC RS2 (Pioneer FPJ1). If you can still get the FPJ1 or the RS2 for $3000 somewhere that might be a steal also. But don't pay anymore than that for it.

JVC and LCOS tech is where its at when it comes to the price range you are looking at and top quality projectors. Plus their black levels are unrivaled at this price point.
