Default Splinter Cell: Conviction coming to PS3?

Sorry if this is old news but I got all excited, I love the Splinter Cell series and Conviction is getting some pretty nice reviews.

Quote:
Last week, PlayStation LifeStyle revealed an interesting find on a LinkedIn profile belonging to an Ubisoft employee. The listing showed Splinter Cell: Conviction, which is known for its Microsoft-exclusivity, as in development for PS3. While Ubisoft was quick to dismiss this listing, they can’t seem to put it down – as it’s come up yet again.

Michael Donnell, a 3D animator at Ubisoft Montreal, has listed Splinter: Cell Conviction for PS3 in his LinkedIn profile, which has described his past and current video game projects. Also, Donnell listed a new Assassin’s Creed title (though it did not have a specific platform), for release this year.

I was a little hyped up about this title because I own an xbox as well, but I don't really think it looks that good, especially considering how much time it was worked on and the delays it had.

Every game seems to get some nice reviews these days, especially with IGN involved. Check their Episodes from Liberty City scores for some good amusement.

Now this is UBISOFT we're talking about. Got your answer right there.
(time-exclusive, questionable polish)

And Splinter Cell's been gradually downhill since the start as far as I'm concerned, didn't see Chaos Theory as the fantastic revival others did. Very easy to rush through even then.

Yep you are so right!, the first one was amazing, and I just tried to play double agent in preparation for Conviction coming out and it was god awful I didn't even want to play after 10 minutes in the first mission, but conviction (found it early at a comp store ), conviction really gets it right again finally, and I actually can't wait till I can play it again, I really hope it comes to the ps3 so I can play it again for trophies , I think this game is finally back on track.

**Side note I read another blog that another UBISOFT employee had the same thing on his list, SC:conviction (ps3)

Why do people keep hoping this game comes to PS3? Its not like its groundbreaking. I have SC and SC pandora tomorrow on PS2 and while they're good games it's not something i miss playing. The series didn't keep me interested to buy the last 2 games not including the PSP or 360 versions. Convictions seems average at best.

Besides, i don't think MS is gonna let this one go.

Microsoft doesn't own the rights to the Tom Clancy franchise, Ubisoft does. This game is most likely a timed exclusive, but you're right that the whole Splinter Cell series hasn't really been all that and a bag of chips over the years, especially these days when you can't take a step into a game store without accidentally bumping into Yet Another First Person Shooter.

I agree 100%. I personally was in love with the first and got Pandora for ps2 and again played for a bit and put it on the shelf, but this game (at least to me) gets back to that first time you played splinter cell and you could just merk the same guys over again going through the missions (where I felt that got lost and convoluted with SC:PT and SC:CT and Double Agent, its just fluid again; movements, actions exc.)

lol I was restarting missions cause I didn't like the way I was killing guards last night, its really that fun and hopefully you are spot on about the timed release.

I haven't minded the SC series. I thought each game was fun and unique, even including Double Agent. Is it something spectacular? No. But, I wouldn't mind if Conviction is ported over to PS3. I would definitely purchase it and play it for what it is. Plus, the coop looks pretty fun for it.

Even if it comes to the PS3, I'm not shelling out $60 for a 5 hour campaign.

As for "well, there's the multiplayer" I'm plenty busy with Warhawk, KZ2, and Uncharted 2, thank you very much.

First and foremost, SCC wasn't always a MS exclusive game. Not for nothing, but the game was supposed to released originally in November 2007, and I had given Gamestop a $5 deposit for the PS3 version because the press releases they had, had it listed for PS3. I'm not surprised that Donnell worked to develop it for PS3 as the MS deal is realtively new development.

That being said, don't hold your breath on this coming to PS3. Ubi is vehement about it never being on PS3. I do find it curious, though. How does that benefit them to eliminate that much of the market? What happened between Sony and Ubi?

Anyway, if you must play it either buy yourself an XBOX 360 or do what I did and get the PC version.

Are you serious? That's kind of like asking why do people like Star Trek? People get attached to franchises and have enjoyable experiences with them. I've enjoyed every single game of the series, some more than others, but to each his own. Just because you're not interested, doesn't mean other people aren't. Not for nothing, but you seem shocked that anyone could possibly want this on the PS3. Despite the fact that it didn't hold your interest, it's been a very a successful franchise with a lot of fans. But, I'm kind of curious how your experience with only the first two games of the series (which, BTW, were released seven and six years ago respectively) equates to having any kind credible opinion ("seems average") about SCC when you haven't played the game once.

Just sayin'.

Yeah... ummmm... Splinter Cell games are third-person shooters, not first... there's a huge distinction. Also, "shooter" is misleading with SC as the point of the game is stealth, not shooting and that's where the fun comes in for the people who enjoy it.

... And isn't that what it all comes down to? If you like it, you'll buy it. if you don't you don't but I don't really see the point of ripping on the game like some folks do when they haven't played the new game and have no desire to.

I've never played any of the Splinter Cell games. And, the only Rainbow Six (they're both Tom Clancy, right?) game I've played was the first vegas (I liked it okay).

I don't know if it was always planned to be 'exclusive' but it's not a relatively new development. Old design tramp Sam Fisher was 360 exclusive and someone on the dev team came out with the nonsense about the AI and graphics being beyond PS3's capability. Fast forward several years and Conviction has poor AI and average graphics for a big-name 'exclusive'. Made all the more embarrassing by the restart and extra six months the game had for polish.

Where have you been? UBI's put on one of the least convincing exclusivity PR-shows to date. And all those dev staff underlings that don't give a **** haven't the tightest lips.

Sony and UBI? They worked together on Ass-Creed II ads late last year. Or in other words, SCE footed the bill for some ACII ads with only a mention of PS3.

Tell UBI that.

No, it's ripping people in the back and letting the game shoot the next bunch of foo's for you!

That was really funny. I remember reading that and thinking what a load of rubbish it was back then. Looks like my instincts were correct, Uncharted 2 vs Splinter Cell Conviction. I wonder what the winner is. It's not even an unfair comparison as both games had a long development period, a top level developer and exclusive to their respective consoles so technically optimised rather than generalised or dumbed down for the other.

I got this game today. Popped it in and...three rings of death.

It's the second time it happens. This is why I always buy the PS3 version of any game. I only bite on Xbox if it's an exclusive I really want to play (i.e. Mass Effect, Gears of War, etc.)

Sucks.

I have this on 360 and I am rather enjoying it.

My only real complaint is that sometimes there is too long a distance between checkpoints and it gets old having to hear some of the same dialogue over and over.

Yes, its very short.
