Sony Pictures All the Money in the World (2017) - April 10, 2018

Quote:
ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD follows the kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III (Charlie Plummer) and the desperate attempt by his devoted mother Gail (Michelle Williams) to convince his billionaire grandfather (Christopher Plummer) to pay the ransom. When Getty Sr. refuses, Gail attempts to sway him as her son’s captors become increasingly volatile and brutal. With her son’s life in the balance, Gail and Getty’s advisor (Mark Wahlberg) become unlikely allies in the race against time that ultimately reveals the true and lasting value of love over money.

Want.

I'd rather see it in the theater, but probably won't happen.

Kind of a bummer that the Kevin Spacey version will never get seen.....

I would say that it's more of a situation of it "being unlikely to be seen."

In this digital day and age, I guarantee that if a copy -- ANY copy -- of it exists anywhere on the planet, it will be seen.

Destroying every single (digital and physical) copy of something is difficult.

Hell, I sometimes have trouble removing something permanently from MY OWN COMPUTER!

Nah, it can stay lost in the ether. Christopher Plummer is a much better choice. Spacey looked ridiculous with all that makeup, to the point of it being distracting. Can't wait to see it next week.

Interesting enough is Plummer was Ridely's first choice for the role too.

This is no diss on Spacey, since I've evjoyed a lot of his work over the years. But Plummer would be my choice too, at least between those two.

Plummer absolutely kills it in the role. I hope he gets nominated for a Supporting Actor Oscar. The movie itself is lovely visually, but I'd expect no less from Scott. Really hoping this gets a UHD, especially since Sony is second to none when it comes to the new format.

I haven't seen it yet, so can't really comment on the performance itself. But I'ld love for Michelle Williams to win an Oscar, simply because she's been nominated 4 times before -- and a 2-3 of those she should have won.

She's owed.

Williams is really good as well. And I thought Wahlberg might've been miscast based on the trailer, but he's good too. Lots of good acting, honestly. The movie just never really rose above "solid" territory for me. (They also Hollywood-ized a lot of things from the real story, but I didn't mind it aside from the climax.)

Of course, she won't. Too tough of competition (Hawkins and Ronan are locks to be nominated, McDormand's still in it though her film underperformed, Streep will get nominated for being Streep, while the fifth nomination's between Robbie and Annette Bening).

But I hope Sam Rockwell doesn't win Supporting Actor. That performance was terrible and felt like Adam Sandler on a bad day.

No, I know. I'm being a fan.

Ironically, the year that I think she deserved it most, 2011 for Blue Valentine, I would have been angry if she had won. That was the year of Black Swan, so I was pulling for Natalie (and the film in everything).

But she definitely could have won last year for Supporting. But she was up against Viola Davis.

She just needs to catch a break one of these years, or she's gonna end up like Deakins: With like 10-12+ nominations and no wins.

Next year Deakins is taking that statuette home.

Deakins winning for Blade Runner 2049 would be like if Scorsese had won Best Director for The Aviator. A legend winning for a lesser project.

I have a feeling that the Academy will get out of their anti-65mm/wide gauge* tangent and give it to Hoyte von Hoytema's work on Dunkirk. I'd love to see The Lost City of Z get a nomination but its April opening hurt its chances.

* - The Master and Sully were snubbed and I personally felt both should have won Oscars. The Hateful Eight should have beaten The Revenant as well. On the other hand, Murder on the Orient Express might be the worst-looking 65mm shot film in recent memory. It didn't look like film (DNR, maybe?) and the dreadful CGI and obvious studio shots didn't help either.

Since he didn't win for this, I don't really care from where the statuette comes:

Caught this yesterday. The movie is only mid-tier Scott, but Plummer was excellent. Funnily enough, when I went to see 3 Billboards two weeks ago, the theater was still showing the Kevin Spacey trailer before it, which was bizarre.

It looks to me like it's shaping up to be Sally Hawkins winning Actress and Willem Dafoe winning Supporting Actor, both of which are long deserved. I didn't see "The Florida Project", but I'm sure he is deserving, and Hawkins is pretty great in "Shape of Water" (I think it's between Hawkins and Ronan).

I do think it would be funny if the Blu-ray doesn't even mention the thing that will be the thing people remember most about the film.
