I do, but as a previously-used phone, its battery lasts for like one minute. It really stinks, so I hardly use it. Otherwise, I never really owned one.
I would like to get a new one though, maybe even a backberry. |

No cell phone for me and I am 26, I say this as I would think people of an older generation would be less likely to have a cell phone compared to the kids today.
I have had a cell before for work purposes, but I hate the idea that people can get a hold of you whenever they want, and when you use a phone for work it really messes up your work life balance. |

I can't imagine not having a cell phone. I am 27 and have had once since I was 16. I have a Blackberry now and am getting emails at all times from work so it's nice to take care of things as they come rather than getting bombarded with a bunch of emails, although I can understand that some people wouldn't like getting work emails on weekends and nights.

The wife has one, my kid does - I don't. Just never had the need, don't like yakking on the phone much, in general. I had one once, it kind of came with a car I bought. But it was a huge, ugly piece of junk and I got rid of it quickly.

I've had one since around '99.
As a parent with a young child, I feel it is an absolute necessity to have one. If something happens at daycare or with a babysitter, I need to be 100% reachable. Other than that, it is just really convenient to have one. If my car breaks down on the side of the road, I am able to call AAA to come tow it to a garage; rather than walking and trying to find the nearest pay phone and . If I'm at the store and forget something my wife wanted me to pick up, I can easily call or text and find out. |

Last cellphone I had was like 5-6 years ago.
But I got a new one recently (for ehm...1 month now I think?), mainly because of my girlfriend and some other friends. ![]() I got the Samsung Omnia QWERTY B7610. [Show spoiler]

I can't really imagine not having one anymore. I've been a smartphone user for about five years (went from Blackberry to iPhone, now using the Nexus One), and the convenience factor is something I can't live without. Banking, shopping, email, pretty much everything can be done on my phone. Hell, I can even deposit a check with my phone.

I've had one since 95 but I've never talked alot on it. I'm on the phone a lot at work so I don't like to spend my free time on the phone.
I don't have a land line at home anymore so I do need to keep my cel. With caller ID, I only answer calls from people that I know..the rest I hang up on or let voicemail get it. I probably text more than I talk though. |

Disconnected my landline in 1999 and haven't look back since. Financially, landlines just don't make sense for me. I do miss the sound clarity of the analog cellphone age.

Got my first when I was 16, when I started working and driving. My mom actually made me get one, so she could get ahold of me when I was at work or driving around. I've had one ever since, and can't imagine not having one. The only way I can understand people not having cell phones, is if they are opposed to phones in general. I can't understand why someone would have a landline but not a cellphone. If it's one or the other, ditch the landline. As for work related stuff... at some point I start ignoring it all. Work is work, my free time is my free time. There's generally nothing important enough that it can't wait, and I don't want to feel attached to my job 24/7. I've thought about going back to school for a PhD, and if I became a professor, I don't think I'd mind firing emails back to students at all times of the day. But that's different. I had a professor who would respond instantly to any emails he got, up until about 1am, and I always thought that was cool. Last edited by toef; 04-13-2010 at 06:36 PM. |

I've had a cellphone since the early 90's...and it was the size of a LARGE brick. Have had mostly Nokia phones through the years and only one flip-phone, which I hated. I just updated recently to an iPhone, but I made a mistake...I should have gotten a Blackberry. Oh well!
John PS~ I haven't had a landline in close to 8 years. |
