Default Bose vs audio formats??

First I hope this is the correct Forum to ask this question.

My neighbor just purchased a Panasonic Blu player and he is having an installer put it in Monday.

His surround sound is a Bose system which does not have a receiver as I do. The player will connect to the TV by way of an HDMI cable and then a cable from the TV will connect to the Bose system.

My question is in regards to audio.

Will he be able to use all the audio formats on a Blu as I do through my system or does Bose do something different and he is not able??

From what I have understood , Is the Bose system won't do the codecs that you are getting with say your system with the receiver . So he is not going to have the full advantage of the sound track on the Blu .

That is exactly what I was thinking but wanted to have another opinion to back mine.

Thanks

No thanks needed Jim . The system does not read them .
Some of the older speakers are well made speakers from what I have read . The systems are what suffer as far as Blu-ray is concerned .

First - if the audio runs through the TV, it's likely to be stereo PCM, not encoded multichannel, by the time it reaches the Bose system. That's a problem with the TV, not with Bose. TVs are two channel devices and very few pass encoded DD 5.1 from external components out their optical ports. None do DTS, as far as I know.

Second - what kind of connection is being used from the TV to the Bose? If it's digital, can you run direct from the player to the sound system instead of routing audio through the TV? Can the Bose decode DD 5.1 and DTS?

This was my thought exactly. Run an optical cable between the BD player and Bose unit, then HDMI between the BD player and TV.

Just make sure the BD player either pushes audio out all ports or it is confirgured to send audio out the non-HDMI port.
