Alright so the the site crashed and I guess I'll have to throw this stuff back up...
So my wife and I moved into our first house about 4 months ago. It's a new build so the basement is unfinished. I had previously had a projector setup and I loved it. Movies, sports, games, whatever looked great on the big screen. When we bought this house I knew that I'd have to lose the space for a bit since the basement was not finished. I figured I could go a while without it. I bought a large plasma, I think I could swing it...right? BOY WAS I WRONG...I stated getting quotes for various labour after the first 3-4 weeks. Nothing is wrong with the 64" D8000, it's some of the best PQ I've seen (I had it calibrated). I just miss having a big screen. So I decided that I'll start this project. I will be subbing the work I can't/won't do myself. On to the pictures... ![]() Screen wall ![]() ![]() Hallway to powder room and cold room ![]() And the powder room area... ![]() I'll be posting more pictures to where I'm at over the next little while... |

So I had subbed the framing out since I'm not about to take such a task on...It was finished up right quick. I had also decided to run a drycore subfloor in the space.
And so, we begin... ![]() You should have seen my neighbours faces when they had seen the big box store's forklift driving down the street for the delivery. They probably though I was crazy... Anyways, more pictures right? The subfloor was a quick install for them... ![]() ![]() ![]() Then on to framing... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Screen wall ![]() ![]() Powder room area... ![]() ![]() |

Now that I've got some time (after watching both Euro matches) I can continue with the posts
![]() I had to tuck tape the walls leading to the cold and powder room as they had to cut into the insulation in order to get the 2X4 tight to the walls (to maximize space in the area). ![]() Next thing I did was I called the plumber in to tie into the hot and cold lines, as well as extend the return for the powder room. ![]() ![]() ![]() Money well spent I'd say ![]() Last edited by EMAGDNIM; 06-16-2012 at 01:16 AM. |

And I had to close the opening and move a air return. I bought the material and went at it. This stuff is CRAZY sharp. Tin is nothing to sneeze at. I'm never doing this again, that's for sure.
![]() I also bought a bunch of materials in order to run electrical outlets and lights...Mixed in there are gang boxes among other items needed in order to run this stuff. I'm going to start with the plugs and then do the lights second. ![]() And that's where we are at ![]() LAME! ![]() |

Alright folks, I've been putting in some work and it's FINALLY coming together
![]() I was able to run all of the plug outlets. ![]() I also ran electrical for the TV we are mounting on the wall and for the electrical tabbed screen. I also used the good old painters tape to mess around with screen sizes. ![]() That's 112" screen. I think I might just go 120" and not look back. We will see. I'm waiting to hear back from the manufacture on the case size and case colour. I'm looking to have a black case and not white since I've decided to pain the ceiling a flat grey colour. ![]() I also ran electrical for the projector in the ceiling. Don't worry, I ran out of boxes so that cable will not be hanging out all alone in the ceiling. All of the electrical items in the basement will be grounded and have a dedicated breaker on my main panel. Now that it's super nice outside, and my soccer season it in full swing (I'm playing on two teams) the work will slow down a bit. Who wants to be stuck in a dark basement right?! |

Well, I just placed an order at Monoprice and I still need more things. I decided to split it up because there's items that are not in stock that I need (such as the new Redmere HDMI cable that I'm planning to run to both the projector and the TV).
Also the shipping costs were out of this world!? If I would have ordered all of the items at the same time, the shipping would have been as much as all of the items. It's crazy how many small items can add up to the total amount. Once you start, it's hard to stop. I also need to buy pot light boxes for the ceiling since I'm planning to sound proof the walls and ceiling and you can have roxul close to lighting without it being contained. |

Good Luck on your HT from a fellow Torontonian. Hopefully you'll have it all done in time to watch the Leafs miss another play off's... just kidding (I hope).
Anyway don't forget to run some network cables for your reciever and gaming console for example. You'll want them on your network for updates and streaming. ![]() |

I know this is going to be sacrilegious, but I'm a Habs fan
![]() I grew up watching them play as I have lots of family in Montreal. My uncle took me to my first hockey game (he's a Habs season ticket holder) way back when. I guess that's when I wanted to be a goalie from watching Patrick Roy play ![]() Anyways I forgot to post this when the servers crashed. ![]() Marantz SR5006. I bought this a while ago before we moved into the new house. I had also picked these up so now I can work on the lighting... ![]() The local big box hardware store had a crazy deal on any items for 15% off so I bought everything I need. ![]() ![]() It's hot as hell outside so it looks like I'll be taking a swim at the in laws and then working on this later this evening. |

It was scary when i tried to order stuff from Monoprice , with the shipping cost's , i was able to buy everything locally and saved some money . Just a small note that everybody should be aware . Estporters are not authorized sellers from Epson and i would confirm with other brand company's if they are so . Epson don't cover products bought at Estporters . |

As for monoprice, I love their stuff but I can't get over the shipping. I still have some items to buy from them so I guess I just have to suck it up for the next round of items ![]() And there was few posts about the Epson issue over on AV Science forums. FYI to people who don't understand why they are $400 less then the competitors. I was told that they are not officially able to carry Panasonic as well. I was told this by a major distributor for Ontario. |

Nice i did my acoustic panels with Roxul S&S and tested them in from of my guitar amp ![]() Regarding Estporters maybe they are getting the PJ's truth a 3rd party and maybe ( i'm guessing here ) from the US . Epson Canada states under every model when you open the specific page in red about Estporters , maybe other's will do the same i don't know . I saw that they had great deals but when i contacted Epson they told me right away about Estporters and since there have been some lemons regarding the model that i wanted i didn't toke the chance . |

When I bought a Denon AVR from Costco I was told that Costco was NOT an authorized Denon dealer and that Denon would not honor any warranty on the unit. Now, with Costco having the worlds greatest return policy and being a rather large national company the concerns of not having Denon stand behind my product was really rather moot. I would imagine Eastporters would tell you that they will look after you for any warranty work but being what I gather is a small company with a single office you obviously run the risk of that support actually being there for you when you need it. I think this one would fall under the category of 'buyer beware', understand your risks and if saving $400 means a lot to you and you have some confidence in Eastporters supporting you then take the plunge and hope for the best. I know I will consider them when it is time for me to pull the trigger, being down the road from me for whatever reason gives me a little better feeling, knowing that I could go knock on the door if I felt I got a lemon, but if I went to knock on the door and nobody answered obviously I would be out of luck. |

I don't want it to seem like I don't like them in general. I REALLY liked the demos that I've received from them. They have a great understanding of the products that they sell. Heck I'm buying my screen from them for sure!
As for the projector, I don't think I'd buy it from them. I understand that they've been around for a VERY long time (I remember when I was buying a Panasonic AE700U many moons ago, and their names was on the short list of places I'd buy it from). Back then they were BIG into grey market imports (HK/Asian models). That being said, they would list it on the site. It was totally up the the end user to roll the dice if they would want to save money. Back then it would have been a difference of about $600 CND. In the end I bought it locally for a great price and didn't look back. I double checked to see if they were authorized by JVC since I'd be spending $4K+ and they were. Epson and Panasonic they are not (though they are adamant that there's no issue). Anyways, I had to buy a dehumidifier because my walls were sweating because of the humidity down there. ![]() I picked this monster up and it's been working well. Because of the crazy warm weather, I have to drain the water out of it almost daily. |

HAHA Thanks! It's tough living in this city when the NHL season starts
![]() I got a call from a dealer and it looks like I have made my decision as to which projector to buy. I know Cedia is just around the corner but it looks like they understand that too so they took a nice discount off of a projector I've been eying. I just want one more demo and it's a go! |
