Warner Bros Freebie and the Bean (1974)

FREEBIE AND THE BEAN (1974)
New 1080p HD remaster
BD50
Director: Richard Rush
Cast: James Caan, Alan Arkin, Loretta Swit, Valerie Harper
16 x 9 LETTERBOX-Aspect Ratio 2.40
DTS-HD MASTER AUDIO-2.0 MONO
ENGLISH SDH
Original Theatrical Trailer (Remastered in HD)

What cops in their right minds would arrest a big-time racketeer on an indecent exposure charge because he zipped up his fly? The answer is none. The answer’s also Freebie Waters and Benito “Bean” Vasquez, who are assuredly not in their right minds.

James Caan and Academy Award®-winner* Alan Arkin are Freebie and Bean, mismatched San Francisco cops who bird-dog a notorious mobster like they’re auditioning for a demolition derby, cutting loose with bullets and wisecracks all the way. Directed by Richard Rush (The Stunt Man), this rough-and-ready early buddy-cop caper follows in the skid marks of Bullitt and The French Connection — but it’s a burning-rubber classic itself, with four major chase scenes and more than 100 car crashes. Fully loaded with humor and firepower, Freebie and the Bean is one beloved smash hit.

Well, never did see this back in the day. It does look like a big, dumb, fun buddy cop movie.
Although, I think in retrospect it manages to make Midnight Run look like Shakespeare.

It's about time! I love this movie. Very good news. Was working at a movie theater when it was released as a Christmas movie. Watched it often during it's run and numerous times since then.

I bet they will mostly never realize this release exists. Did they take much interest in the DVD release from WAC that has been readily available since 2009?

It was just a joke about the insane ending of this film.

Finally. Good thing I got rid of the DVD as I think it was sourced from the laserdisc master from the early '90s. I also heard there was an offensive line missing from that version.

LOL, there's also the fact that the title contains a nickname that isn't exactly racially sensitive! Oh well, times were different, it's a fun movie though.

Just watched this for the first time ever over the weekend on DVD (purchased it thru WAC back in April). I thought it was a great popcorn flick. Will have to look at upgrading to bluray during their next sale.

Let's not derail the thread with this kind of bullshit, please.

Anyway, it's a great film, and a blu ray release has been long overdue. It's great news to hear this announcement. Kudos to WAC for finally releasing this on blu ray.

I'm not sure about this. I saw the movie quite a few times back when it came out in 74 but I'm not sure I liked it that much.

I might wait and see how it looks. If the video gets good reviews I might get it.

Are these pressed discs?

Yes, all WAC Blu-ray titles are pressed, not burned BD-Rs.
