Canada Red Cliff in Canada

I see that Red Cliff is being released in Canada on April 13. I am wondering if the extended cut is the Canadian equivalent of the 2 disk International version available in the U.S.A. on March 23rd? If so, this is the one that I am interested in picking up.

The full version is 288 minutes total on 2 discs.
The listings below show the Canadian release as 282 minutes.
The only reason I can think of for that is it is a slightly censored version cutting out some of the more graphic battle scenes , falling horses etc.
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B003439LTQ
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Red-Cliff-Blu-ray/9399/

Stay away from the US theatrical version at 148 minutes.
The US long version is also the 288 minute one , go for that one .

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Red-C...-Blu-ray/8746/

I still prefer my Hong Kong version as it has 7.1 audio. Either way the 288 minute is the ONLY CUT to get.

Thanks. I like to buy my Blu-rays locally so hopefully the international version will be available in Canada. Also I would like to get a version with the missing footage.

I would imagine that the 282min. run time that Amazon.ca advertises is probably a misprint as it is not uncommon for websites to get little details like runtime and Audio/Video spec's wrong.
It appears to be share the same cover as the US Long Version, so we should be good. I don't know why they would censor or make a different release for us Canadians.

There's several versions on Amazon.ca. I went for this one http://www.amazon.ca/Red-Cliff-Part-II-Blu-ray/dp/B0030A6ID0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1269880676&sr=1-1 as it's listed at 288 minutes.

Make sure you buy the 288 minute cut. Look closely at the 2 different covers , the one with the red strip on top lists as 288 min. and the other "blue" topped cover is 282 and costs $2:50 more

Even the US Theatrical Cut lists as 2 minutes longer over the Canadian one (148 verses 146)
Again , I say its censored , I guess we Canadians are not allowed to see a horse fall. The love making scene is not explicite enough to warrent any censorship

Does anyone know if it actually comes out tomorrow?

I know that Mongolia doesn't distribute in Canada, and I think E1 Distributes for them. Last time E1 had a release, it was the Week After the US (Universal Soldier: Regeneration)

That is a great price that you got. The price now at Amazon.ca is considerably higher. I'm going to first check my local Best Buy and Future Shop outlets on the off chance that they might have the International Version for sale.

Can anyone who bought the E1 Entertainment extended release (Or looked at it in stores for that matter) give us some spec info and special features info? Is it a two disc set? I know the 2 disc longer cut from Magnolia includes a 2.5 hour documentary and a 27 minute Interview with Woo. Did the E1 release duplicate this?

I know most of the talk is about the running time, but as an animal lover, the cut footage won't hinder my overall enjoyment of the film. I do care about the special features though. Specifically that 2+ hour doc.

Thanks.

Just picked up the Extended Canadian Version

box states runtime = 288min. (same as US release)

Bonus features = The making of Red cliff doc, storyboards and an interview w/ John Woo on disc 2 + an HDNET "making of" special.

from what I can tell, it's EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE U.S. INTERNATIONAL RELEASE.

and it has a slipcover...oh my.

Just to confirm BigJayMofo, I picked up the extended version this morning from HMV for $24.99 CAD. It is indeed 288 minutes, two disks, first one 146 minutes, second one 142 minutes so must be the same as the International version. Same price at Future Shop, pretty good price for a movie that is almost 5 hours long.

Is this a good blind buy? I watched other movies like House of Flying Daggers and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon but found watching them once was great but can't watch them again. So I'm wondering if Red Cliff is the same experience.

Btw my Best Buy only carried the one with the blue strip (not the red one) and priced at $27.99. I almost picked it up as a blind buy but decided to research more of it. Glad I found this thread.

I bought the blue trip version which is the extended version. According to the info on the container and slip cover, this version is 288 minutes which is exactly the same running time as the international version so as someone previously stated, the extended version is the same as the international version. There are some huge battle scenes in Red Cliff which neither Flying Daggers or Crouching Tiger had.
