Default The Apocalyptica Appreciation Thread

I first heard of this band back in 1997/1998 when I lived in Charlottesville Virginia. I was homeless at the time, and my buddy was the manager at the Regal Cinemas on the downtown mall, and he would let me in to see movies all day if I wanted.

So this is around the time that Saving Private Ryan was out, and Rounders, Sliding Doors, Two Girls and a Guy, Deep End of the Ocean (loved that movie) and the such.

So I went to see Neil LaBute's "Your Friends and Neighbors" starring Ben Stiller, Jason Patric and Aaron Eckardt. When the movie started up, I heard Apocalyptica, who I had never heard of before, playing Enter Sandman.

I was flipping out like "who the hell is THIS?"

So I stayed through the credits and found the name, and then went to the used record store a block up from the theater and picked up their album.

And the rest, as they say, is History.

I'm a HUGE fan of theirs, and it's been interesting to see them evolve from a simple cover band, to writing and performing their own work, going on tour with Metallica, and getting a lot of big names in hard rock to sing on their records.

NEW ALBUM OUT THIS SUMMER TOO! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

New video footage of them performing new material can be seen by going HERE: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/bla...sitemID=137590

Finnish cello-rockers Apocalyptica just announced a summer debut for their latest metal-inspired creation. The new album will follow up their 2007 release "Worlds Collide." Dave Lombardo of Slayer, along with several other surprise guest musicians, are set to participate on this 7th studio album.

Classically trained cellists Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, Perttu Kivilaakso and drummer Mikko Sirén are currently putting finishing touches on the album and gearing up for their February invasion of Kaapelitehdas, Finland’s metal expo. By early March the band will return to Los Angeles and prepare to unveil the album on an international stage.

Apocalyptica also has the following upcoming tour dates:

2/20/10 FI – Helsinki – Kaapelitehdas (Finnish Metal Expo)
3/11/10 FI – Savonlinna – Savonlinnasali
3/12/10 FI – Lahti – Sibeliustalo

I love their Cult album, I want to get all of them

Amazing music, I've always wondered why their music hasn't used for movies, that would be the most awesome thing.

Well two songs were in "Your Friends and Neighbors" and two of the members did one of the three soundtracks for the PS3 game "M.A.G."

The soundtrack for SVER was composed by Perttu Kivilaakso and Mikko Sirén from the Finnish symphonic metal band, Apocalyptica.

Love Apocalyptica! My wife and I used a lot of their music for our wedding ceremony

Fade to Black and One are my favourite covers by them, Hall of the Mountain King and Harmageddon are excellent as well.

In fact I am going to put some on now!

My God, I've been wondering that for every symphonic metal band. Imagine how awesome it would be if "LOTR" had Tristania's music or something!

I guess they're still not popular enough in the US to catch Hollywood's attention.

Anyway, I am a casual Apocalyptica fan; gotta love their unique use of string instruments. I love the "Worlds Collide" album; it was the first of theirs I bought. I hope to own all of theirs some day.

"Inquisition Symphony" is awesome. I also like "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos", but not as much as Inquisition.
Other than that, I can't say I've listened to any of their other stuff.

I think their cover of "Nothing Else Matters" is better than Metallica's, personally. But then again I was never a Metallica fan, so... *shrugs*

Listened to the "Worlds Collide" album today. I forgot how much I liked their song "Helden" ("Heroes"). I prefer it over the original by David Bowie, and the remake by the Wallflowers.
