I almost got Minority Report. It was 18.99 from my quick pick selection. What do you have in your selection? Anyone get any REALLY good deals on this?

Within the last 2-3 weeks, I have gotten Minority Report for 18.99, Shawshank Redemption for 18.99, Dr. Strangelove for 19.47, and North by Northwest for 18.04.

All of these were with a free Prime trial. All good deals I think.

quick pick is at the bottom of the gold deals page. You get there by going to Todays deals at the top of the amazons home page

Not much of anything...at least of movies that I want to buy...It always seems that when there's a title I want or have in my wish list, Amazon waits until after I purchase it to put it in my quick picks! Go figure. The last quick pick I got that I took advantage of was for "The Last Starfighter" and that was almost 4 months back. But then again, since I don't buy a ton of Blu's, perhaps I shouldn't expect them to always guess right for me...

The secret to the quick pick selection to be good is to do a lot of blu ray searches through the Amazon site. I find when I do that that about 40% of those I selected to view are eventually offered. Give that a shot and I think you'll get lucky.

I seem to get only the movies I've actually purchased. Or appliances of some sort.

Yeah, I really hate when I get an offer for something like Mad Men season 2 on DVD because I bought Mad Men season 3 on Blu-ray, even though I bought the Mad Men season 2 Blu-ray on Amazon. That happens all the time.

By the way, in case anyone didn't know the Quick Picks are always 5% off Amazon's current price for an item, so Amazon having Avatar or Minority Report at $19.99 x 5%=$1.00 off, new price = $18.99.

You can manipulate the likelihood of a movie appearing in your Today's Deals page by clicking the Recommendations hyperlink at the top of the page and going to Full List. Then you can decide whether or not you're actually interested in the stuff toward the top of your Recommendations list, and you can refine it. Once you say you're not interested in an item, though, I think it's difficult to undo that choice. The Recommendations page is based on your purchase history, but typically I notice that a movie will NOT appear in your Today's Deals page if you have it in your Wishlist. Therefore, I would remove movies from my Wishlist if they dropped to a pretty good price and then look for them to appear on my Recommendations page a day or two later.

That's a good tip. My Quick Picks are always lame, and they always seem to choose stuff that's way more than I usually spend per title anyway, so the 5% off does not help much. I think I've used it maybe once, and it was on something I was planning to buy anyway.

I wonder if what you mentioned applies to all wishlists or just your default...? I have a Blu-Ray list that's my default, and then a secondary list for everything else. Hmmm.

Eh, I kinda goofed the wording there. I meant to say that upon removing a BR from my wishlist, I would look for it to appear on the Recommendations page immediately and assuming it did (somewhere fairly high up, like top 10), I would then look for it to appear on the Quick Picks page a day or two later. My point, though, was that the Quick Picks are generated from your Recommendations page, which you have good control over.

Not sure about your wishlist question, kk725. Try removing a BR from some/all of your wishlists and checking your Recommendations page, though. Usually the BR would appear there for me, but I was unable to get some BRs such as Collateral to show up.

Ah, I see what you were saying, now. Thanks, mate. I'll experiment with it a little and see what shows up.

Er, I don't want to say he's flat-out wrong because I can't prove it...and your searches might affect the Quick Picks somewhat...but I honestly doubt it. The secret to the Quick Picks is definitely in refining your personalized Recommendations page (which is largely based on your purchase history, not your search history, and also your Wish List).

Just go a Google search on the topic, and you'll see how people manipulated their Quick Picks feature to give them 5% off of Xbox's by tricking into Amazon into believing that they owned Xbox controllers (by rating the item as though they had purchased it).
