I have one more question that I hope someone can help me with. I am trying to hook up an equalizer to my preamp via the tape inputs. When I press tape it switches to tape mode causing me to lose the source(cd,phono, etc).I have audio going to the eq fine but can't get it back to the preamp. My other preamp has a direct eq input so I did'nt have this problem. Any suggestions?

And here's the rub........ Alot of todays AVR's and pre/pro's for various reasons omit the tape monitor function just as they had done with the phono pre-amp sections. If that's the case with your pre-amp, your only choice would be to put the EQ between the pre-amp and amplifier but that would only give you 2 channels of equalization. For a Stereo rig that would be fine, but for the more elaborate multi-channel setups you could run into some issues. |

Many older stereo receivers and multi-channel AVR's had pre-outs and main-ins for all the channels. They were connected with jumpers. It was possible to connect an equalizer between the preamp section of the receiver and the built-in amp. Also, it was possible to redirect one channel of the receiver's amp to another channel. Unfortunately, they don't make them like they used to. The majority of AVR's that have pre-outs these days do not have main-ins. I believe the very expensive Denon top-of-the line AVR still has them.
In case you want to connect the equalizer between the preamp and amp, follow the instructions below:

The thing is there is no tape monitor button. When you press tape it switches the preamp to tape mode causing you to lose the other source.I am thinking of trying this.Run the left right cd outs to the ins on the eq the the outs of the eq back to cd in on the preamp.I am using this in my music system not my home theater so it will be stereo only.

I got it to work.Since my preamp has a digital direct button that feeds the signal via toslink I hooked my dvd stereo analogs to my eq then went back to the preamps analog cd ins.Now when I want eq I simply turn off digital direct hit cd on the preamp and it works. This will only work on cd though not other inputs.

I use an EQ and dbx gear when I listen to music. I have all my analog sources (phono/tape/CD/mp3) plugged into this switch.
Then the out goes to your EQ in, the EQ out goes to pre/pro or AVR. Works great. ![]() http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SB-V40S-S...5940965&sr=8-1 Last edited by Sciatti; 10-01-2010 at 01:52 PM. |
