Contemporary American Westerns:

A Contemporary Western tells a story about life in the west today, when primitive frontier
conditions are replaced by the blessings of civilization -- technology, judicial process,
Indian reservations, paved roads, automobiles, oil, radio, telephones, movies, airplanes
and jets, ATM's, automatic weapons, splitting the atom, world wars, space travel, computers
and progress of another kind such as feminism, economic depression, illegal immigration,
racism, pollution, and global warming. In the Contemporary West people's lives are still
determined by geography but with a history and culture to emulate. The Contemporary
Western is a different animal from the classic, traditional period western but no less
problematic. To qualify as a Contemporary Western the film must be made domestically
and tell a story about life in the west today. Prominent among the missing on blu-ray are
The Lusty Men, Hud, J.W. Coop, and Urban Cowboy among others. To avoid confusion I
will not be integrating contemporary westerns with period westerns.

This thread is for American westerns. There are other threads devoted to spaghetti westerns. There is an increasing number of Australian-made and New Zealand-made westerns such as The Proposition, and dating back to the delightful The Man From Snowy River, but we won't be discussing those here.

There are many direct-to-video westerns on bluray that aren't in the system.

I'm still uploading titles and organizing the OP. Many additions and changes are pending.

I have not yet decided if western TV programs and series on blu-ray should be included, such as Rawhile and Little House on the Prairie and Deadwood, etc.

Meanwhile if anyone wants to discuss westerns or make suggestions please do.

You can add Magnificent Seven (2016), Duel (2016), Jane got a Gun, Brimstone, Keeping Room, A Million Way to die in the West,. TV series like Hell on Wheels, Hartfield and McCoys, Texas Rising deserve a spot

Thanks. These are all on the list to upload, except Hatfields and McCoys. I wasn't going to include Civil War movies and other pioneer-era tales like Tom Sawyer etc that take place in the deep south. The deep south is not the west, and a western takes place in the west, which geographically by definition is west of the Mississippi River. Anyhow, that's my reasoning.

Many of the best and most important westerns aren't on blu-ray yet. Some are on DVD, but not all. Be sure to watch

I've been trying. If you know how to reduce the size of icons let me know, please. I tried a couple of tricks that aren't working. Put * 's near brackets etc so that lines can be read, and I will know to delete them.

I simply took the number at the end of an url -- for example 176849 at the end of Shane like so with *'s

into [B*D]* to upload the icon. Perhaps there's another way to do it?

You can use the SMALL tag [*SMALL*]URL Code[*/SMALL] , but that reduces the size considerably. You can also use MEDIUM.





What ever size you decide, copy and paste your info into a text file and use 'Find and Replace' to change over the tags way quicker
