Okay. I'm thinking of joining the Navy reserves. Here's my problem; I have bad credit now. Up until last year, I had a 700 credit score. I got laid off from my job, went unemployed for a few months, found another job, and got laid off from there too. During this time, I fell behind on my mortage and basically everything else for the first time in my life. Now I'm facing foreclosure and unless this short sale I have going gets approved, it's going to happen by next week. Will a foreclosure and all those negative hits on my credit keep me from getting in? Or will it just affect what jobs I'll be able to qualify for? I tried Googling the answer but couldn't find one. Thanks.

I was in the military and no, a bad credit score won't prevent you from getting in. Only things that will prevent you from getting in are:
-Criminal history, including being on probation and parole. Or any other pending issues like divorce, child support, large civil issues. -Drug use...like you're suppose to keep track of how many times you smoke... -Physical issues, kinda hard to serve without both legs or any severe metal issues -You're just plain stupid.....the ASVAB waiver is not what you want on your record. (I'll throw in not graduating High School or getting a GED, even though you're not immediately labeled as stupid if you didn't graduate.) -Not being American........I think they'll shoot you in the recruiter's office if you're not an American citizen. -Previous service that ended negatively.....whether dishonorable discharge or discharged for misconduct. Some branches may still re-enlist you but it's a slim chance. |

![]() I agree most service branches from what I've read are looking for qualified people who aren't dumb, in trouble with the law, and have less then 18% body fat lol. |
