Default Help wanted: SR7002 vs VSX-23TXH

up until now, i've been saving up for a Pioneer VSX-23TXH.
but, i just noticed a special on amazon.com for the marantz SR7002 at 699$ USD (with an msrp of 1399$)

Anyway, question is, is the Marantz far superior to the pioneer? as far as sound quality and power/performance goes?
I know the marantz is lacking in the up-scaling dept, but i prob wont be using that feature, since i have my oppo.

my current receiver is a Pioneer VSX-1016
are both those receivers good upgrade choices? will I get better sound? more power?
i want to upgrade mostly for the hd audio, plus the reduction of cables.

sorry for all these questions, im kind of confused and dont want to make the wrong decision, and i def dont want to take the advise of a salesman at the local stores in my area.
