USA Stalag 17/The Dirty Dozen (Double Feature)

This is interesting.

Jeff Baker (WB) :
Quote:
You're going to see some incredible products coming from Warner Brothers with Paramount next year. We're basically going to co-mingle the libraries. Together we're going to create multi-features that are totally logical and then we think there will be great consumer demand for. I'll give you an example. Two of the biggest epic religious films of all time Ben-Hur and The Ten Commandments, well, we got Ben-Hur at Warner Brothers and of course then The Ten Commandments was with Paramount. We're going to do a double feature on Blu-ray and standard definition of that. We are going to take two of Bogart's greatest films Casablanca and The African Queen and put them together. So this is the kind of thing that we're going to be doing. [These were just announced]

I'll give you some other examples: Serpico and Dog Day Afternoon , I think that's a pretty good matching, the Dirty Dozen and Stalag 17, so we get some great, great complimentary content between Paramount and Warner Brothers. In addition to continuing to sell Paramount product individually which we will, we are going to create these multi-features and I think the consumer is going to be the big beneficiary from being able to buy these films and collect these films and own these films that logically go together.

Apparently, they are planning to release The Dirty Dozen with lossy audio this time (don't quote me on this).
Also, does that mean that Stalag 17 will not be available as a standalone release?Hmmm...

I really hope it's not a double-feature disc - I love Stalag 17 but have zero interest in The Dirty Dozen. I'll be very disappointed if the only way to buy certain new catalog titles is as part of tangentially related double-feature discs.

They should come up with a trade in program. I already own Dirty Dozen & I have way too many double dips from box sets/multipacks.

...oh wait, I've gotta friend who loves Dirty Dozen & just upgraded to Blu. Score!!

I'll double dip just to get Stalag 17 as the DVD looks horrible with plenty of dirt and print damage.

I think I have the 1999 DVD. Does the 2006 release look better?

Most online reviews indicate that the 2006 DVD is quite nice.

Are we 100% sure they're talking about Blu-rays and not DVD's in that paragraph? Stalag 17 and Serpico are confirmed to be re-released on DVD through Warner on 1/1/13, but there's no indication of a BD release. Unless I missed it, they don't really specify at all whether they're talking about BD double features or DVD ones.

You're probably right.

I like the avatar mod.

He was looking a little too fierce, so I had to lighten him up. Here, I found one for you

Prefer Stalag 17 as a standalone BD but would purchase this if it was the only option available.

+1 yeah I don't know how I feel about this double feature idea but if it means we get more blu-ray releases out of it I would be happy with double features. They need to make double features with 2 new to blu titles though, if they start this 1 new title and one title we already have released on blu for every double feature I might be upset.

definitely NOT excited about this development because it seems to imply the possibility lots of double features containing one film that has already been released plus one that has not.
just think that will happen too often.
the dreaded Sony In Cold Blood/Capote disc has STILL not broken up as far as Capote getting its own release.
it's absolutely ridiculous.

Me, too. I'd buy it just for Stalag 17.

I like Dirty Dozen just fine. My main thing is make blu-ray, please.

The stand-alone Stalag 17 Blu-ray is perfecto.

I would not mind seeing The Dirty Dozen again at some point, though.

With a new master and lossless audio would be nice.

Pleasant surprise on this. I planned to pick up Stalag 17 anyway, the addition of the Dirty Dozen is a great bonus.

Especially when it's actually $3 cheaper than the separate release of Stalag 17 on Amazon
