Default Air Force One AQ Is OUTSTANDING!

For an older movie, the sound easily blows away even some of the most recent action genre releases!

Sorry, I'm watching it now and I just got excited!

No reason not to be excited about this mix. It literally has everything you could hope for. There is a huge amount of surround presence, amazing as this is from the 90's. There was deep extension that quite frankly holds up to today's mixes. There is a lot of detail to this mix. While not on the level of detail that today's mixes can have, it's got an amazing amount of detail. This is very close to a reference track.

It was one of the best demo discs back on DVD in Superbit form, so I'm not surprised that it's still excellent demo material on BD.

I think the fact that it is an older film is why I was taken by surprise. I just didn't expect it to sound that good!

I agree with you about the Superbit DVD, which I sold off when I upgraded. I'm happy to say the BD absolutely topples the Superbit in every way.

I wholeheartedly agree on Air Force One's AQ! Bought it for $5.00 on iNetVideo.com a couple of months ago, and I haven't looked back!!

Did they ever fix the whole subtitle issue with the US Blu-ray release?

What was the issue? If you're referring to the subtitles for the Russian dialogue, I didn't see any problems...they were there onscreen. If you're talking about the subtitle track for all the dialogue, I didn't check that.

There are some 90's titles that sound amazing. This and U-571 are still amazing sounding titles.

Some pressings were missing the English subtitles for the Russian dialogue only. Sony has a replacement program in place but as is the usual with Sony's BDs, these subtitles are "soft" player generated subtitles. There is also an error in the subtitle track where a "translation" is repeated twice. Essentially, the disc has four subtitle streams; three of which are selectable: English, English HoH, and French.

Buena Vista International's BD keeps the "hard" burned-in subtitles and there is no error for these.

Ah. Thanks steve_dave, that's great info. Then I have the soft player generated subtitles. Although I didn't notice the repeated line. But that just means I wasn't paying attention.

I scored mine on a similar sale a couple of months back (don't remember if it was inetvideo). The AQ is definitely top notch on this one.

Default Air Force One

Mainstream plot (with a ton of action, though), dated special effects, decent PQ, but the audio will blow you away! Really reference quality material for most of the movie. Sensationally dynamic, with hearty LFE and crisp detail. Who says Dolby TrueHD can't be "loud" and robust?

If you like action flicks, pick this one up!

Default air force one widescreen?

Let's start by saying this IS NOT a widescreen movie. If you don't believe it, rent the regular DVD version and watch it pan & scan (4:3).
What was done with this movie is simply incredible. It was filmed 4:3, AND THEN THEY CUT IT TO MAKE IT LOOK 2.35:1
For more info, go to the Digital Bits website and read the ANAMORPHIC section.

That's correct. Lots of movies are shot this way, like Top Gun, Terminator 2, Star Trek VI. When shooting, the filmmakers know they'll be cropping the top and bottom so they allow for more head and leg room.

Nothing too incredible about it, it was just filmed in a process called Super 35 which is VERY commonplace with movies nowadays. Nearly every "widescreen" movie (2.40:1) you have seen in the last decade has been shot this way, though thankfully some directors (Christopher Nolan especially) have started to trend away from this and return to classic Anamorphic photography.
