Something is telling me this small win for HD-DVD won't last very long. Blu-Ray has much more exclusivie companies signed to it, including the biggest of them all DISNEY. When Paramount sees the format losing steam once again or honestly never gain that steam back, they'll be back with Blu-Ray.

The Star Trek movies, the Godfather trilogy, Gladiator (Dreamworks) and more recently, Transformers and Shrek the 3rd (both Dreamworks, but considering Paramount own Dreamworks now, do the math).

I agree. Dumb move on Paramount's part. I don't think any studio should just switch to one or the other right now. While I believe Bluray is going to win in the end, it really is still too early to be picking sides and studios that do may regret it in the end either way. If they continue doing both for awhile, they will be better positioned to go one way or the other when the technologies finally work out. The average consumer has no idea what BluRay or HD-DVD is. They think because they bought a DVD Upscaling player that they have Hi-Def still so until that mentality changes we are still in infant stage no matter how you look at it.

Don't put this down, it's a serious threat

Paramount has a solid back catalog, and Transformers alone will at least sell a lot of 360 addons this fall. Combine that with Jack Ryan and it's a major 1-2 punch.

Totally agree.... this is very serious blow to BD. Blockbuster+Target victories ALMOST equal out this news.... Losing a studio support is just huge, it might even make BB and Target think twice about removing HD DVD now, especially BB.

To be honest, with this announcement from Paramount, I will be on the fence now regarding which format to invest. If Sony and the rest of the BDA dont get their act together by this holiday season, I just might go out and purchase a Toshiba

It's kind of ironic how one of the highly touted fall releases, the Jack Ryan Collection, now won't be coming to Blu-ray. That really blows. I was gonna buy this one on its its release day. I guess not anymore.

Default Don't do it!!

Whoa dude, you're scared enough to buy into HD-DVD just because of this announcement?? Paramount is crap compared to Sony, Disney, and Fox. Remember that all three of those are exclusive to blu-ray, and will continue to be exclusive. Blu-ray has a large domination in players sold, and a 2 to 1 advantage in discs sold. I don't know what you mean about getting the act together this holiday season either. The Spiderman trilogy, Pirates 3, Ratatouille, Cars, and many others will come out only for blu-ray. After this holiday season, the separation between the two formats will be even greater. Unless you are some kind of unusual person who happens to love every movie every released by Paramount then this move doesn't hurt the blu-ray cause for you at all. There really aren't that many movies by them that are good. Do yourself a favor and give it some time, and you'll see that blu-ray will be the better choice.

First of all dude above me, just search for it, I've read it plenty of times now. Second of all, don't get too excited about pirates and spidey. Spidey may be too expensive for those who want it and they're not helping themselves out by packaging all three together instead of making that a secondary option. And from some reports I've read on this very website, Transformers is supposed to take on Pirates in December. I thought pirates would blow transformers out of the water, but if you've checked to box office lately, transformers is about to overtake pirates domestically.
