Default Hi Diddle Diddle (1943) - Screwball Comedy on Blu-ray

Screwball Comedy With All-Star Cast, Hi Diddle Diddle is Now Shipping!

With an official street date of June 13th, we've started shipping our latest release, Hi Diddle Diddle (1943), for those who have purchased their copies at ClassicFlix.com.

A screwball comedy with few rivals, Hi Diddle Diddle and all its madcap glory is making its Blu-ray debut and stars Dennis O'Keefe, Adolphe Menjou, Billie Burke, Martha Scott, Pola Negri, June Havoc and Walter Kingsford.

Animated wallpaper, breaking of the fourth wall and an actress that shows up in almost every scene playing different characters because she's "a special friend of the director's", Hi Diddle Diddle has to be seen to be believed.

Buy a copy today and see a clip from our restored release below.

Sounds like a nice cousin to Hellzapoppin. I'm intrigued.

Have you picked up your copy?

If anyone wants to hear what Quentin Tarantino says about the film, listen to the "Public Domain Movies" episode of Pure Cinema Podcast (starts at 02:42:49).

The sad thing is, while his enthusiastic recommendation picked my interest, ClassicFlix decided to release it as one of their Silver Series without English subtitles, which made me pass this release

It isn't like we had a choice, it's just where the market is. I am not deaf or hearing impaired, but I, too, like subtitles as a consumer. The reality is we're in the red on a lot of releases, even some years old, and if I had a do-over I would have likely released some on the Silver Series line to reduce costs.

The physical media market is shrinking by 30% a year and many more of our releases will be Silver Series in order for us to continue to keep the label alive put out as many classics as we can on BD. The more support for our Silver Series BD releases the more likely we'll be able to continue putting neglected titles on BD. The less, the more likely those releases will be put on DVD or not come out at all.

Because of the material, however, on DIDDLE, it didn't meet the PQ standards of our top line so it wasn't going to get a top line release (which is where feature films will always have subtitles).

First off, I love Pure Cinema Podcast! Second, have you tried using bluetooth headphones for discs without subtitles? My TV has bluetooth capability and I can sync my noise-cancelling headphones to it. It helps a lot for discs and streaming movies without subs.
