USA FM (1978 film) on blu anyone?

This is one of my favorite 70's films.
Martin Mull in his finest role, and the late Cleavon Little playing a DJ for the 2nd time (he was "Supersoul" in the cult classic "Vanishing Point")
I would love to see a company like Image (or similar) get the rights to this one!

This was reissued by Anchor Bay on DVD in glorious widescreen and 5.1 sound, but there was a bad batch pressed and a whole lot of them rotted (including my copy) as the result.
Of course it's OOP.

the theatrical trailer:

Movie sucked. I'm a longtime Linda Ronstadt fan, and I won't even buy this. Sorry

I guess this is cosidered a cult classic, it's not for everyone.
It had a great soundtrack too, I have the original vinyl 2 LP set.

Thumbs up Give me my fm blu-ray !!!

Love this movie. Just saw it for the first time ! Love the music, and prefer the story and characters to WKRP In Cincinnati by a longshot !

Between John Alonzo's cinematography (credited to someone else, but clearly his work,) the Awesome 70's music played throughout the film, and the performances by Jimmy Buffet and Linda Ronstadt, this is truly a great candidate for Blu-ray !

I don't think I've ever seen this, but the trailer looks interesting. It seems like a Day In The Life Of like Car Wash or Thank God It's Friday. Is that right?

Quote:
The airwaves crackle with the delectable sound of smooth rock in FM, a riotous comedy about the heady world of late-70s US radio.

Michael Brandon (Four Flies on Grey Velvet) stars as Jeff Dugan, the ultra-cool program director at Q-SKY Radio, LA’s number one rock station. Dugan encourages a free-wheeling culture at work, employing an array of eccentric DJ personalities: Mother (Eileen Brennan, Private Benjamin), a husky, world-weary ex-hippie; Eric Swan (Martin Mull, Clue), a mad-cap romantic looking for love, and The Prince of Darkness (Cleavon Little, Blazing Saddles), a cool cat who keeps the night-time airwaves alive. But when the station’s future is thrown in to jeopardy by corporate bosses looking to cash-in, the Q-SKY troupe are forced to batten down the hatches and turn up the volume – will a fully-fledged rock ‘n’ roll rebellion save the day?

Legendary cinematographer John A. Alonzo (Chinatown, Scarface) directs this slickly-produced rock film, which combines hilarious studio hijinks with epic footage of Linda Ronstadt and Jimmy Buffett in concert. FM also boasts an incredible platinum-selling soundtrack featuring a pantheon of AOR greats including Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Eagles and Tom Petty (who also cameos). Now, High Fidelity meets High Definition as FM debuts on blu-ray with a selection of exciting new extras.

Most like an R rated theatrical version of WKRP in Cincinnati. WKRP showed up on tv right after so this was probably the inspiration.

Sounds like a winner to me. I do likes me some WKRP! At the very least the music for FM looks damn solid.

The creator of WKRP swears it was already in the works, when FM came out.

Looking forward to the upgrade from my DVD. Watched it again just the other night.

Great!!!

This and WKRP are two of my Fave-Rave Film/TV Shows!

There are Three (3) different threads for FM - If possible, we need an Admin to combine the Three.

Well, there are 3 different releases too. UK / Canada / US.

Not unless there's something in the film that the BBFC would take objection to, a-la the naked poster in the Sister Street Fighter set. Not likely with this film IIRC. The only difference should be with the MPAA / BBFC ratings logos on the packaging.

As for Canada, there really isn't a separate release, it's the same as the US.

It should be Region B friendly since it's a dual US/UK release. If not, here's the UK edition.

I think so. I was watching some UK discs last night, had the player set to B and just watched FM without changing a thing.

Geeze, the licensing for this thing must have cost a fortune! 33 songs listed in the credits, pretty much wall-to-wall music the whole movie long.

Yeah, I picked mine up from B&N with a coupon for 15 clams. Very tasty price indeed.

Received my Region A USA copy of FM in Australia and I can confirm it is Region B compatible.

No static at all, indeed!

I think it depends on when the Film was made and what the Producers arranged. The Producers may have locked-up all the Rights into perpetuity.

Unlike TV (WKRP, Northern Exposure, as examples), which wasn't originally intended to be owned Privately.
