Clint Eastwood Blu-ray movies: Question! - Blu-ray Forum

I just got done watching THE GAUNTLET, which was pretty amazing. I loved nearly every minute of it.

Here's my question:

I'm thinking about taking a dive into the Dirty Harry movies (which Blu-ray set is the one with the keep case?)... compared to THE GAUNTLET, how do the Dirty Harry movies compare? More grittier? More edgier? Explain.

- I've never seen any of the Dirty Harry movies (yeah, I know, lame huh?)

- I've seen Clint's Spaghetti Westerns (love them all!), but none of his U.S. Westerns (double lame!)

- The only other Clint movies I've seen are Firefox (when I was a kid), Gran Torino, Heartbreak Ridge, and I think that's it...

So, just need some help. As big as a movie buff I am, I have voids that need to be filled.

I do love 70's/80's crime flicks/dramas (Godfather, Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Year of the Dragon, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, Straight Time, etc. etc.) However, I thought The French Connection was sorta overrated, so go figure. Just giving you an idea of what I like.

Again, which Dirty Harry collection has keep cases? I'm no Blu-ray snob, I just don't like all these odd boxes n crap (digibooks, fold out box sets, etc).

Thanks in advance! I have subscribed to this thread so I'll be sure and read everyone's suggestions.

P.S. I refuse to pick up the Blu-ray with Dirty Harry/Magnum Force. I don't want another fiasco where I have to wait for the other movies to be packed together/released (ie Bond Collection!) I'm either going to go with the box set or not go with it at all.

Warner US just re-issued the set with standard keepcases.

If you loved The Gauntlet you will also love the Dirty Harry flicks as they're definitely in the same vein, though the Dirty Harry flms may be a bit more hardcore with the violence and less slapstick from Sandra Locke. She's also in Sudden Impact (Dirty Harry 4), but her character is on the other end of the spectrum.

Dirty Harry is one of the best cop dramas ever and Lalo Schiffrin's score is one of my all time favorites

Magnum Force, The Enforcer & Sudden Impact are really good too!!

I snagged the Dirty Harry/Magnum Force two-pack (two discs inside a normal Blu case) back when it was $15. This might be an option for you. I haven't watched MF yet, but DH is an all-time favorite.

As for Clint's American westerns, Unforgiven is probably the biggest must-own, and it's rather cheap on Blu, too (I got it for under $10). Great film indeed.

I really can't imagine you not liking the DIRTY HARRY flicks especially since you gave a thumbs up to GAUNTLET and the spaghetti westerns.

Get the boxed set!

You can't go wrong with any Eastwood film. And it is a good idea to go with the Dirty Harry Collector's Edition with the slim-keepcases. Also on June 1st Warner Bros. releases a few more of his early work.

Look for

Absolute Power - with Gene Hackman, Ed Harris and Laura Liney
Heartbreak Ridge
The Rookie - with Charlie Sheen

In the Line of Fire is a good one, i havent seen it in years but i loved it as a kid. Malkovich is at the top of his movie villain game in that one.

Since you said keepcases but didn't specify individual cases, I'll throw it out there that you can buy the Dirty Harry collection (I just got it actually, 44 bucks from Warner) that comes in a Die Hard collection-style case: one standard height/depth case, about the thickness of two cases together, with all five discs inside. Also comes with a slipcover. If you don't want all the extras/fancy box that the Ultimate Collection has, for 44 bucks it was hard to pass up.

As an aside, WBShop's standard shipping/processing is obscenely slow.

Any Which Way But Loose is a really fun clint movie. Hang em High is also another great western by clint

I second In the Line of Fire. Also, check out Pale Rider. And if you want to watch a fun movie with great performances from an all-star veteran cast, try Space Cowboys.

I'm set on getting the boxed set. I do like the U.S. 5-disc keep case version; but man.... that UK set is catching me eyes even more. =D
