Gotta agree with your sentiment here - I was really disappointed to find that my Dawn of the Dead (2004 remake) didn't have any of the extras that were present on my DVD.

I always search hard for movies with a decent amount of features. If one lacks then I don't really bother picking it up. Eg Avatar. Got fantastic reviews and I know it would look just fantastic, but I'll be waiting for that 4 disc set. And also the Aussie LOTR releases, which were completely bare bones as well: pathetic.

Jenifers body was a huge bomb at the box office and the studio wasn't going to spend anything they didn't have to on it's release. To be fair as well, they have been upfront about Avatar and are doing something that looks as if it will be incredible for the blu ray (finishing off effects work on around 6 minutes of footage, which is not quick, easy or cheap), as well as creating real special features (such as the ability to watch the film PIP with the the actual recordings of the actors performance etc). Plus giving the quality of the transfer, and how long it took to compress the film due to how it was shot (over three times as long as most films take), and the cheap price tag it carries, i'm not at all disapointed, I don't think I would be even if I loved special features. That bieng said I rarely care for special features, so when they aren't there I often don't even notice.

I think more problematic was the first films video transfer. As per above, the lack of special features didn't personally bother me, though I respect that others like them.

Never watch Special features. Never listen to Director's commentaries. I am only interested in the movie itself, plus the PQ and AQ quality.

Same as me, I find it frustrating when Australian releases are bare-bones compared to the US/UK version (Misery, Silence of the Lambs). I'm fine with waiting for Avatar's Ultimate Edition, though my biggest peeve at the moment is Criterion Blu-Rays being Region A locked

Yeah, SteelBooks rock! I have slowed down a lot lately with SteelBooks. Been getting too many damaged ones from overseas. I may start again with any new Australian releases that I can actually buy instore and not have to worry about receiving in the mail. I also have 31 DVD SteelBooks.

Yeah I'm with these guys as well, although I do sometimes watch special features for the movies I absolutely like but overall I hardly ever watch the features much less listening to the director go on and on about a movie while the movie's going on. Also spending 15-30 mins sometimes longer watching comments from actors and other people pretty much saying the same thing about the movie in like 3 making of featurettes that some movies have.

So yeah if the movies freakin awesome then yeah I may watch a couple features on it, but yeah overall nah I'm cool with watching the movie in hi-def

Do people even really do that? I mean, just watch the movie while listening to commentary? All the time I've spent buying these things, I have never done that. Not once.

I listen to commentaries. They can vary from being informative to just entertaining.
